I just remembered that when Tobi first confronted Nagato and co., Yahiko instantly realized that it was impossible for him to be Madara and actually laughed at the idea that someone would be so stupid as to pose as Madara:
So.... what makes Yahiko so special? Why was he able to sniff out the fake when so many other top shinobi could not? I mean we are talking about people like Jiraiya, Minato, Itachi, all the current Kage and many more. Why is it that they were not able to see through the rouse when a kid from an isolated village cut-off from the outside world could?
Personally, I don't want to use plot as an excuse because although this conveniently happened right after Tobi being revealed, it still does not explain why someone like Yahiko could figure this out when a slew of top shinobi, most notably Itachi, could not. I just feel that some of Kishi's antics in regard to establishing credit for Tobi being Madara through character testimony was more about fooling us rather than doing his characters proper justice.
Edit: Honestly the only explanation I can come up with is that Tobi simply grew on the others, like Itachi and the Kages, and was eventually able to convince them that Madara was the only one he possibly could be. I mean it is much easier to call your enemy by a name rather than calling them.... 'someone we don't actually know.' That is truly all I can come up with, the fact that Yahiko did not have time to be fooled like they were.
