I still think its the right eye sorry. Why would kishi use a close up after showing the right eye activated only and he could have shown both eyes if it were the left eye.
I heard from another forum, that Naruto is on hiatus next week ( like Kishi tends to do, i think its to gather data) .
So maybe Kishi is not 100% sure of what the power is, and is still deciding between several ideas.
Going with the above, im gonna share some ideas.
1. 3rd treasure
2. a genjutsu to show sasuke the real events, etc Madara was behind the coup/ cause.
3. something like Seshormaru-Sama vs Inuyasha ( early series regardless of who won they neevr could kill each other, something like that )
4. Some Yugioh type stuff,
A. when Sasuke uses EMS, Naruto & Sasuke will be fighting in a Genjutsu realm, so Madara won't capture Naruto, and Kabuto won't get his hands on Sasuke. ( from here Sasuke joins forces with shinobi .
B. Rasengan vs Chidori clash, it brings sasuke and naruto back to the origin of the curse.
5. a portion of Itachi's life force . ( both Naruto & Sasuke drop on ground about to die, this power revives the both of them )
6. ( Susanoo is the key to MS & EMS powers)
when Sasuke activates full armor dark susanoo, Naruto will use Itachi's good susanoo.
Itachi's susanoo, permanently seals the evil susanoo . thus purifying sasuke.
7. The thread creator's idea of guarding against most of EMS powers.
8.something to extinguish amaturasu if sasuke uses it on Konoha .
believe that Itachi gave Naruto the third item he had from his Susano'o since the Sakegari Blade and Yata Mirror are part of trio of items known in Japanese mythology (where many aspects of Naruto draw heavily from) as three Imperial Regalia of Japan, since Itachi possessed two of the items it seems natural that he would have had the third as well.
The Jewel stands for benevolence which fits with what Itachi asks Naruto before giving him the power “What would you do if you were forced to weigh the village against the life of Sasuke?” Naruto says he will save the village yet do so without killing Sasuke and after he makes his answer Itachi gives him the power (since it seems his answer was Benevolent making him worthy of using the item which Itachi himself might have felt unworthy to use) and it also fits with Naruto's personality where he has never attempted to kill anyone unless he absolutely had to.

I've seen 3 or 4 threads like this but as its relevant to the current Manga i'll give my take on what Itachi's gift to Naruto could be in light of the recent chapter.
Lets start by examining the facts. Here's the chapter where Itachi initially gives his mysterious gift to Naruto:

Notice above that Itachi gives his power to Naruto after hearing his answer to what he would do if Sasuke were to attack Konoha. So this establishes one fact straight away: the gift was directly related to Sasuke, specifically helping Naruto to stop Sasuke, if and when needed. Upon hearing Naruto's response Itachi was satisfied by it and gave him the crow, meaning there was a possibility that had naruto said something arrogant that he might not have received any powers. After all, Itachi put his bro Sasuke before the whole village, and Danzo later commented that leaving Sasuke alive was Itachi's only mistake. So perhaps giving Naruto powers to stop Sasuke is Itachi's way of making amends for that one mistake he made when he let his brother live when the uchiha clan were massacred. I say stop, but let me be very clear that whatever power there was was a non lethal type, i refuse to believe that Itachi would want to see Sasuke dead after all that happened. So thus far it seems that Itachi's power was meant to help Naruto to:
1. Stop Sasuke
2. Not kill him
These seem fairly certain points right now. But now lets take a look at the most recent chapter, and what it shows us:
Before starting here, i just wanted to point out one thing: a lot of people gave a huge amount of importance to itachi's line 'I hope the day never comes when you have to use it'(last pic^). I feel he said that because he hoped that Sasuke would return to Konoha, not because of the nature of the powers or any adverse affect they may have on Naruto. Like when he meets him now, he straight away says ' What's become of Sasuke?':

You can see the pain and shock on Itachi's face when he learns about what happened.So that line of i hope you never have to use your powers meant i hope sasuke doesnt turn dark side, in other words.

'I was right to trust in you after all...' he says that after naruto says his plan was always to take care of sasuke. Meaning taking care of sasuke was also the purpose of the powers given to naruto, this much seems to be obvious now. Naruto is surprised by this statement, meaning he was referring to the powers given way back then.
Then there is the last page:

Itachi activates his MS, and the crow makes another appearance . Potentially this could mean that every time somebody activates a MS the power kicks in OR itachi deliberately turned the power he had given Naruto 'on'. This possibility i doubt, both Itachi and Nagato at this point were under kabuto's control, and as such their bodies and whatever actions they did were not their own. This then leaves us with the option that everytime someone activates a MS in front of naruto his powers given by itachi get activated.
Of course, this is not a fact, but it appears to be a distinct possibility after what has been shown.
So, my guess is that as the crow appears again at the end, it has the power to nullify the powers of the MS, ametarasu, tsukiyomi and susanoo or any other MS tech's will be rendered ineffectual or inaccessible for the user who naruto is up against. It makes sense, as that way the user(lets say Sasuke, whomitachi intended the powers to be used against) won't die but 90 percent of his powers will be negated if this were to happen. Its important to note that Sasuke now has EMS, and knowing kishi it probably won't be that easy for naruto when these two fight, but still i think the power given by itachi will work partially, and it'll be upto naruto with his new powers of his control over the kyuubi to do the rest.
I have to disagree with everyone stating that this power will be some sort of MS/EMS shield, even for kishi that would be more hax than anything else we have seen yet, what seem to be the two most distinct possibilities to me are what I posted above about the Third item Itachi likely had or that Itachi gave Naruto enough Uchiha power to obtain the Rinnegan much like Tobi did to Nagato who was also related to the Uzumaki clan.
I'm actually feeling disappointed knowing that the gift is just a defense against Mangekyo Sharingan tech. I was hoping for more like the power to stop the cycle of hatred in shinobi world.
Awesome Theory!!! I think it didn't activate when Kakashi used MS because Kakashi didn't use it against Naruto. And practically after Naruto was given the gift by Itachi he didn't get MS used against until now =P

First Itachi activated right MS, nothing happened, then he activated left MS and said ''lets see what happens''. He uses his left MS for Tsukiyomi. Maybe Itachi's gift protects from that.

Maybe Tsukuyomi and ameterasu are activated by Itachi's right eye, but Susanoo is activated by his left. We still ddon't know what the gift is..but in my theory it may suppress Susanoo because Naruto has no chance of defeating the ultimate defense powered by the EMS.

Did not read all reply's but I think it really confirms that this power is something to defend it self against MS jutsu's.
Itachi also says, "let's see what happens" and then turns "ms" on, because that way he can control if his power givin to Naruto works.
Well at this point whenever itachi's ms is activated the crow will come, this means sasuke aswell as he took itachi's eye. But madara i HIGHLY doubt. Itachi doesnt know anything about madara and what he does know most others know already.
Naruto is fast, got massive rasengan to aviod being attacked shield of flames aorund ssauke, and can fight mid range now as he can fire off wind rasnegans. So I DOUBT this affect is meant to help naruto against the black flames.
For tuki genjutsu he can enter in and out of sage or riko mode to disrupt his chakra and he can do this very fast now. So genjutsu looks like it handled.
Sassano is just fighting really theres nothing to counter here, naruto would just fight as normal massive rasnegan, wind ransegnan speed etc..
The only thing that naruto may not have answer for is that genjutsu blade as its effect is more or less intantoues and a big risk of being sealed. So I think the gift is to help here. I'm prety sure about this because if its something that negates the sharingan other MS users would know about this, it wouldnt be a itachi exclusive. But the the legedary weapons itachi had were in his posssesion. So think if itachi has something unque to offer it is about those legendary weapons. But this based whether sasuke gets them, he would have to get othewise sasuke will have a next impossible chance of winning.
So long story short i think this gift is to counter that genjutsu haxed sword.
That being said itachi was very surprised that naruto can control the fox, so he probally thought naruto at the time need all the help he can get. When itachi meet naruto, naruto didnt even have sage mode.
So it could be something as simple as negate ms techs but that would be reduntant as naruto can deal with it at this stage of his growth.
