So did Madara actually die after awakening the Rinnegan?

We can come to the conclusion that he really did die since he was brought back though Edo Tensei young. We know that Edo Tensei brings you back the way you were before you died. This is why Nagato still looked very weak with white hair after he revived everyone he killed in Konoha. Also Granny Chiyo was still old as well. I doubt Kabuto can bring them back at a younger age or else he would have had the ability to power Nagato up as well as fix his legs. So I am guessing the only special thing Kabuto did to Madara was allow him to be able to fully use Hashirama's powers and that was it.

There is no way to explain how he was brought back young. Also if he was planning on being revived through Nagato then we have to assume again that he going to be revived as his younger self because it wouldn't make sense for him to be revived as a very old man. I think he really did die shortly after he awoken the Rinnegan. His body died out but the only way for him to live was to be attached to the Hashirama clone plant to fuel that body with energy.

Well, as 602 has shown, Madara was very very old and still much alive. He stated he had given away his eyes and had implanted one of his in his left eye. This implies that when Kabuto resurrected him, he resurrected him in his prime, not at the time of his death.

He died shortly afterwards since we do not have a precise date as to when nagato was given the eyes we cannot determine the exact number of years he had lived for afterwards.

And if you look at all the others, I think they were aswell.
When Oro summoned the first and second hokage, they were in their prime aswell - They weren't as strong, since Oro isn't that great with the technique - but if you look at their age - they are pretty much in their prime.

Now, while it's true that Nagato got white hair n' stuff - It could very well, be the time he consideret his prime - Given that he had a huge change of heart, and resent the person he was before.

Also, yes Kabuto said he brought Madara back "better" then he was in his prime. That doesn't mean that he intended to bring him back in his prime, he just got lucky. Edo Tensei is suppose to bring you back the way you were before you died. Kabuto explained this to Tobi. He said they are also brought back with their original powers as well. This is why Nagato had the Rinnegan and obviously Madara as well in their Edo forms. My point being, Madara told Kabuto that he died "shortly" after awakening the Rinnegan. Which means he still had some time left after awakening the Rinnegan to plan and put things into action. What I think Madara did was he DIED but used the Nakara and Human path to revive his own body and to place his soul back into his body before giving Nagato the Rinnegan. This would actually make sense of him truly dying and being brought back that young. Since Hashirama cells slows his aging and this was about 40 years ago when he gave Nagato the Rinnegan.

No he said Madara was completed beyond his prime. Meaning after he revived Madara he completed the Hashirama cells within him. This is why Madara asked Kabuto if he knew the secrets of his body. This is also why Madara was confused at first and didn't know what Kabuto was talking about. He asked Kabuto what he did to his body that made him special and Kabuto. After he dropped the meteor he then looked down his shirt and seen that Kabuto was talking about the Hashi cells. We need to remember that Nagato was suppose to revive Madara too. Madara wasn't going to be revived through Nagato as a old man again and that is for sure. So his body had to have died young and he(imo) used Nakara and Human path to bring life back to his body and to place his soul back into his original body and thus be confined to that underground base where he had to use the Hashi plant clone thing for life support because without it he would just die again.

He completed him beyond his Prime when we say Prime Sarutobi are we talkin bout the old guy? No a younger verison and Kabuto said his edo tensei was special. When see Madara already has Hashirama DNA. Kabuto didn't know the secrets of his body and he was talkin bout the Rinnegan which him and Orochimaru hypothesize came after EMS and Madara prove them correct.
