So did Madara actually die after awakening the Rinnegan?

Kabuto said Madara's edo was special and that he brought him back as he was in his prime. maybe this has to do with the DNA sample Kabuto retrieved...?

what Kabuto did to madara's body was different to what he did with the other people. He somehow managed to revive his body beyond his prime. Somehow the formula that he wrote for the edo tense or the artificial experiments that he might have done with madara's old body made this edo special compared to the other ones.

Why didn't he do this with everyone else like Chiyo and all the old people? well i don't know, maybe because its a lot of work and the only compatible information that kabuto had was for madara's body. Maybe it had something to do with Hashirama's cells. Orochimaru was indeed an information tank concerning revival jutusus, youth and shit like this...

EDIT: and no, madara did not die after he awakened them. He gave the eyes to nagato and took another eye for his own.

Anyways, this chapter explains why Obito could not simply return to the village. For a whole week stupid, impatient people kept whining on why Obito didn't protect Rin.

BOOM! Finally it's confirmed that Nagato did not have his own damned Rinnegan and that they are literally Madara's eyes! This begs the question of why Izuna went into war blind, rather than get spares...

Also, since they are in hell, does this mean Madara and Tobi could tag out in their body? This would explain Tobi's skill against Minato.

Another question answered is "I died shortly after awakening the Rinnegan". As I said earlier Madara meant this figuratively. Being on life support means he is essentially dead as a ninja. The Madara of legend was gone. The legend was dead.

My guess is that without a FULL Senjuzumaki body, you just lack the chakra necessary to handle a PAIR of Rinnegan (Obito is using one). Madara quickly succumbed and the Rinnegan became useless in his age. This is why he was forced to give them to Nagato.

Kabuto brought Madara back young. This is what made his edo special. He was surprised he was brought back in "such a state".
