So... who's ready for P4G the Animation tomorrow? :) :) :)
Definitely.

Not sure if this is off topic, but... is anyone else playing Nocturne now that it's on PSN? ._.
Nah, we've discussed Nocturne and Devil Survivor before. ^^ The official rules of the FC section say that off-topic posting and chat is allowed in fanclubs.

Anyway, I still have Nocturne, or Lucifer's Call as it's called here, on the PS2. I'm probably playing it 1-2 hours a week. The game has aged quite a lot but I'm still enjoying it from time to time. The fact that Dante from Devil May Cry is a character in the game also amazing. U_U

All I have to say is, the first episode of Persona 4 Golden just streamed and it's currently 3:30 a.m. over here. :|
I haven't watched it yet. I was too busy. Dx

I'm going to watch it right now. English subs, though...

Edit:

Alright, what the hell was that?

- No mention that Dojima and Yu are ACTUALLY related.
- The beginning was extremely rushed.
- They ruined the comical scene between Yu and Morooka in the worst possible way.
- Chie, Yosuke and Yukiko talk to Yu OUT OF NOWHERE without any set-up.
- Yu finds out about the Midnight Channel in a completely different way than usual.
- He takes on over a million shadows right after awakening Izanagi.

...

Marie was in the episode, though. That makes it 10/10.

Let's hope Golden is what Brotherhood was to Fullmetal Alchemist. A rushed beginning but ends up being completely amazing.

LMAO, my exact thoughts.

Yu's "new" personality seems interesting. It's not too different, but I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

Oh and that next episode preview... WTF.

The first episode was utter trash cause of that whole dam brat acting so high and important, just soaking up the screen time like it's nothing. Goddamn kids should just go to college and marry.

Ahaha, as I told Souji, there was too much of "Yu". :|
But with what Naoya said, I wholeheartedly agree. Very rushed, hardly any set-up. Those who haven't played the actual game or watched the previous animation might find it hard to get sucked into it. And as Magatsu said, that next episode preview also confused me A LOT. Kanji, already?! Dafuq? I'm almost afraid it won't be canon at this point and just pure fanservice. I mean, it's not like I mind as long as they give me some great screen time...*all I really care about* LOLOL. The animation was really neat though.

My main point here, HOWEVER, is that I've looked up some posts and discussions on the first episode and there was one take on it that particularly made sense. The animation right now is a New Game +. I'm quoting someone here:
In the [first] Animation, he was caught off guard by Morooka, but this time around, he was willing to sass back because he knew he'd be on King Moron's shit list anyways, he might as well have some fun with it. He was ready to jump into the TV at Junes right away, and didn't even show the curiosity that P4A Yu did because he'd done it so many times before, and he knew what'd happen. As for the Awakening, he might as well show off his Level 100 Izanagi. He wasn't even shocked that he even had the Persona ability.
In that case, we can change our viewpoint on this as a sort of meta game. It would be really interesting. Another quote also says:
The ED song also heavily hints at it ("...it's the memory of a past life. He's back in ??? and he's leading the way, has something changed?"), so I'm pretty convinced it's NG+.
So I'll just take it as that.

And wait for the last few episodes for the insane laughter and godly Jester Arcana.

Wow, great find Adachi. That makes total sense.

Margaret said in the beginning that "even if you change your viewpoint a little bit, you'll find new beauty in familiar scenes" (or something like that). I took that as an indication that the Yu in this series was picking different in-game "answers" than the Yu in P4A. This only further supports the NG+ theory.

Well, I guess it'll become more clear in the next few episodes.

Fear not, once Adachi and myself grace the series with our screen-time, it will become much more enjoyable.

Yu smiled on the train as if he knew what was going to happen.

He reached out to the gas station attendant instead of the other way around.

.....Wow. NG+ is a possibility. I would've liked a new and fully detailed Golden anime more, but let's see where this will lead to.

There we go, more proof.

Well, looks like we're in for a lot of surprises :zise:
One thing though.

If he remembers everything he'd know who the true killer is.

Will he let the victims die needlessly for the sake of plot? Unless he ends up...burning the paper. The smile at the beginning would be an evil grin.

Nah...

....good point :p

Well maybe if Kanji is showing up so early, that could mean that he doesn't let them die/get thrown in. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

But if he does end up burning the paper... omfg.

Yes. I can't wait to see how they'll animate the faces. It's literally the only thing I'm looking forward to. LOL.

OMFG, that totally makes sense. I hope this happens, it would be hella great. I would have successfully converted Souji to the dark side. U_U But that would be a rather badass twist to the story.

So, I currently have a pretty bad cold (a little better now, though >_>), and I wanted to relax and enjoy myself while resting. Good thing, too, I saw that P4GA was on Crunchyroll! As a premium member on there, it made my day as I sat back on my chair and watched it with my brother. Here's a breakdown of my impressions for the important parts.

Velvet Room stuff, EXPOSITION GALORE, yada yada. That was expected. Hate Igor's Seiyu, though... really do, he overdoes it. Margaret was fine, though.

Then, the opening. OMG the opening, got me so HYPED, Persona style and character intros were seamless and just pleasing to the eye. And the cameos of SLs were nice, mixed with Yu's trip to Yasoinaba. Shadow World is always a good song to use. What surprised me was that they didn't use an original or reincarnated song to go with the anime, much like its predecessor.

(Also, Adachi! I didn't know you were Ai's little bish before I came over to kick your ass LOLOLOLOLOLOL jk xD)

First scene with the cherry blossoms and the Yu/Marie CANON encounter (back off, Naoya >_>), it was SOOOOOO well animated, both characters were impeccable, and everything was framed right; the music, the shots, the paper, etc etc

Now, is it just me or is Yu far friendlier and outgoing in this interpretation? He shakes hands with everyone (shit, if he didn't shake hands with Izanami NONE of this would have happened, SHE DIDN'T EVEN OFFER HER OWN HAND UNLIKE THE GAME LOL), and he's a total smartass. EXCELLENT WORK, GG

Dojima doesn't mention himself as uncle, though, which I thought was weird. It almost seemed like they were strangers...

Nanako and Yu singing the Junes jingle OMG <3 that was so cute, I need to teach that to my little sister now U_U

School day, Yu backsasses Morooka, which was cool, but then he suddenly gets all homey with the Big Three, without setup. Ummm, ok, here was where I started to wonder how far this anime would stray from the source material and its predecessor.

THEN MIDNIGHT CHANNEL, WHERE WAS TRIAL OF THE DRAGON OR THE JUNES STEAK TRIP?! :T_T:

Chie literally mentions it in passing all like "Oh, by the way, guys..." and we're all like "ok wait, isn't that like one of the most fundamental parts of the entire plot?". >_>

Yu's like, "oh, I can stick my hand in the TV, btw, let's go into the TV world!"

I thought the integration of Marie to find the eerie bedroom was a nice touch, though. Then they meet Teddie (btw, I also dislike his Seiyu, the voice grates <_<), which was parallel to the story... very good.

Shadow chase scene and persona summoning.

OK, WTF, I KNOW I'M BADASS AND ALL BUT PLEASE TELL ME HOW IN THE HELL YU KILLS ALL THOSE DAMN SHADOWS WITH WHAT LOOKS LIKE ENDGAME LEVEL SKILLS, LIKE, WHAT KIND OF EXPECTATIONS ARE WE SUPPOSED TO HAVE FOR THE REST OF THE SHOW?!

Marie and Yu at the end was nice, though it felt shoehorned it without any real explanation.

Overall, as an initial foray into P4GA, I'm giving the premiere a 7/10. It's good, but too many things were left to be desired, especially for us hardcore fans.

+ Yu Narukami as a REAL Protagonist
+ Animation quality and style
+ A fresh interpretation that makes it somewhat unique and less predictable.
+ Instantly recognizable and hummable soundtrack
+ Marie <3

- Too much focus on the Protagonist without any real introductions to the rest of the cast
- Fans will wonder how far this anime strays from the source material; almost worrying.
- Rushed story aspects
- Asspulls (yeah, not buying Izanagi wrecking shit like that, no matter how cool it was. First episode, too, like WTF)
- No notable OST yet

I SWEAR IF THE NEXT EPISODE IS A FILLER OR NON CANON EPISODE I'M DROPPING THIS SHOW UNTIL IT'S DONE

(lol jk, but that preview seemed... interesting)

I read some of the discussions you guys were having, all valid points. I think you're all right, too... I had an inkling feeling that it MIGHT be something like that.

But this anime reminds me how cool a Mayonaka Anime would be U_U

I agree with everything you said. I posted almost the same but you went in full-detail. Pretty awesome job. I still do hope things will improve.

That's nice. Marie is still mine, though. You want canon proof?

Wow, that says it all, folks. Some real canon proof that Marie belongs to Naoya.

Don't worry Souji, there's still Yukiko! ;)

Damn right

Well, for all you Marie lovers...:|

She is apparently a playable character in P4U!
...

:|

*Dies*

So she's canon? Or nah?

Regardless, Naoya will be happy :p
That's an understatement. Lol

I'll be getting the DLC without a doubt.

The feels are too much.

Anyway, how's everyone doing? Keeping up with the anime? How's life?
