Hmm interesting but this certainly does not mean that iphone users are per say smarter just because they are mainly college grads and rich people. There's many layers to this article and the subject in general to just come to the conclusion that Iphone users are smarter based on the evidence presented. Two key points that caught my attention...
"college graduates tend to also have higher iPhone sales."
When you hear the term "college grad" you immediately correlate it with some one with a superior educated mind set. When in fact most college grads are young impulsive 22yr olds who want a sense of grander real world fulfillment that they seek through materialist objects. The rash side of the brain compels them to go for the 800 dollar iphone just to standout and brag and follow the crowd as social acceptance plans some part in it. While the less used logical side of their brain probably would of edged them to go towards a 400-500 dollar android phone that meets every need that they want in a phone to keep them satisfied but this doesn't feed their need of fulfillment. Recent Studies have proved that money does infact make you happy/buys happieness. What better way for a typically 22yr living fast having no knowledge on how to wisely handle his money to meet his need are their to self indulge into something expensive yet yields equal quality to a lesser expensive phone from say another company. Also being a college grad doesn't make you any smarter than someone who didn't go to college but freely studied twice as much on his free time in half the time it takes someone to finish the college curriculum.
"Rich, white males tend to buy more iPhones, particularly in the first weeks that they go on sale."
This is pretty self explanatory but looking deeper I don't see any quantitative evidence that corresponds being smart to being rich and white. Do you think the average rich white person would really care to sit and look though the best cost vs performance phone when one of their advisers will most likely get them to buy the latest iphone with in a week of release? These men care more about looking flashy and maintaining their highly paid image than to venture off to something that might hinder this image. It's like how a rich man will buy one Ralph Lauren polo shirt for $200 instead of buying 10 shirt of the same quality and look for $20. A lot (not all) Iphones users aren't paying for quality, performance, everyday use per say in most cases. They are paying to the the name apple. Mentally they aren't paying for the product but instead the product name. The name Iphone/apple holds enough value to them to overlook what the name actually brings to the product.
This study doesn't tell me that iphone users are smarter, in fact it tells me that they are less open minded and follow a narrow mentality of price over realistic life worth of a product. It tells me that they are more rash and illogical when it comes to spending but who am I to judge how we spend our money, hell i've had apple products/a iphone in the past but I was any smarter of a person when I bought it.
