It are 400 chapters since yesterday.
If you like shonen anime like Naruto and Bleach, then definitely
I actually never considered FT to be a real shounen series. If you would ask the question who is the male character that makes it a shounen, it would be Natsu and the mysteries that surround Natsu indeed form an important part of the plot. However in the end most of the time this is pushed to the background and only sporadically touched. Only in the most recent arcs it became more prominent, but for the rest the series always focused on the Fairy Tail guild as a whole and the group of Natsu, Lucy, Gray, Happy and Erza in particular. I mean FT has an unusual amount of strong female characters that are very prominent.
Straight.
Don't trust these fools that say it's a great series, they're just completely biased.
Fairy Tail is a good series at best.
And the ones who said it's a bad or not a great series aren't? What you just said in itself can be considered a very strong representation of being biased.
That's because a lot of people don't watch things critically and once they start to like the characters, then everything is set.
And a lot of people watch things too critically, ruining pretty much the entire thing for themselves and then try to ruin it for other people too. Once they deem something bad, everything is set likewise.
You sir just made one damn good valid point.
That point is something me, and countless other of FT fans, have been saying for a hellish long amount of time. FT is not, has never been and never has had the intention to be series with a deep, complex plot and whatnot. It's a simple series meant to entertain you. To be blunt it's a series where you first set everything in your head on <zero> and then enjoin the series. And it works.
I deem OP the best series ever because it has such a complex and intricate plot, however such a plot also requires that you keep focused and after a while that feels really liked your weighted down. For example this is very noticeable in Naruto where Kishi has been hammering endlessly on that dualism of Sasuke - Naruto/Madara - Hashirama etc. and the symbolism behind it of Yin/Yang. By now that really feels like a metal ball and chain to your leg. FT is the ideal remedy for that, no thinking, just go. It's that simple and it's this that made the DB franchise so great. Hiro even said that he was strongly influenced by DB.
If you would start critically analyzing DBZ, it would be horrible. Extremely straightforward plot with barely any depth, an entire arsenal of plotholes and the most screwed-up power scale ever. Still its popularity was and still is ridiculous. Why? Because it's simple and entertaining, its bad points are fare outweighed by its good points. It has proven to be a successful recipe. Despite all the critics and the like you do not achieve what FT has achieved so far by being a good series, it is a great series. You can start critically analyzing for yourself FT and judge it's a bad series, however that is something personal. There are several series I personally don't like, but are without a doubt great series.
FT is a great series simply for the reason it has achieved so far. So to answer the question of this thread just check it out and decide for yourself what you think of it. Personally though I always prefer the mange over the anime. The FT anime has some sick soundtracks though and quality was I have found it most of the time better than several other popular anime.
