First off, in this thread I'm more-so making an observation of the villain rather than hating on the new series. So far, my feelings of the Gaiden are simply.... meh. Meaning I don't love or hate it. This thread will be about comparing the new villain with past heroes, villains and anti-heroes.
1. Shin's marking of weapons in order to manipulate them is a re-hashing of Minato's teleportation. Anything he would touch, he'd mark and therefore be able to teleport to. The idea is the same.
2. Overuse of sharingan. An obvious one, but clearly his overuse of Sharingan is a re-hashing of the anti-hero Danzo. No explaining needed here.
3. Mini-juubi's teleportation not only mimics Obito's, but the graphic is exactly the same. We don't know for certain it sends him to another dimension, but its more than likely does. More clear re-hashing.
4. Shin's apparent identity crisis. He utilizes a clone of some sort that he calls his son and gladly sacrifices it in combat. Its downright odd that he calls this thing his son and named it after himself. In addition to his personal issues, he has issues with essentially everyone involved with Konoha and is in a complete and total rage in general. Its a total rehashing of Obito, his obsession with mimicking Madara and getting revenge on the world as a whole after losing his hope for the future.
To clarify, by re-hashing I mean its reusing the same idea. In a nutshell, this guy's whole repertoire can be summed up as a Minato/Danzo/Obito 2.0. Most of these observations are pretty obvious, but the sheer volume of ideas Kishi is re-using here is quite apparent.
Now what does this mean about the mini series? Does it make it bad? Does it mean Kishi largely used all his ideas and had to re-use some old ones? To me it simply adds to the 'meh' factor of the series. I'm going to keep reading it because maybe there is something significant to be gained from this plot wise and maybe there is a bigger surprise to come; but in general, this amount of re-hashing is far from confidence building.
Please give me your insight into the new villain and let me know what you think about these similarities. Thanks for reading as always.
