First off, in this thread I'm more-so making an observation of the villain rather than hating on the new series. So far, my feelings of the Gaiden are simply.... meh. Meaning I don't love or hate it. This thread will be about comparing the new villain with past heroes, villains and anti-heroes.

1. Shin's marking of weapons in order to manipulate them is a re-hashing of Minato's teleportation. Anything he would touch, he'd mark and therefore be able to teleport to. The idea is the same.

2. Overuse of sharingan. An obvious one, but clearly his overuse of Sharingan is a re-hashing of the anti-hero Danzo. No explaining needed here.

3. Mini-juubi's teleportation not only mimics Obito's, but the graphic is exactly the same. We don't know for certain it sends him to another dimension, but its more than likely does. More clear re-hashing.

4. Shin's apparent identity crisis. He utilizes a clone of some sort that he calls his son and gladly sacrifices it in combat. Its downright odd that he calls this thing his son and named it after himself. In addition to his personal issues, he has issues with essentially everyone involved with Konoha and is in a complete and total rage in general. Its a total rehashing of Obito, his obsession with mimicking Madara and getting revenge on the world as a whole after losing his hope for the future.

To clarify, by re-hashing I mean its reusing the same idea. In a nutshell, this guy's whole repertoire can be summed up as a Minato/Danzo/Obito 2.0. Most of these observations are pretty obvious, but the sheer volume of ideas Kishi is re-using here is quite apparent.

Now what does this mean about the mini series? Does it make it bad? Does it mean Kishi largely used all his ideas and had to re-use some old ones? To me it simply adds to the 'meh' factor of the series. I'm going to keep reading it because maybe there is something significant to be gained from this plot wise and maybe there is a bigger surprise to come; but in general, this amount of re-hashing is far from confidence building.

Please give me your insight into the new villain and let me know what you think about these similarities. Thanks for reading as always.

1. Unclear about that one. Clarify. Scan?

2. Agree.

3. Agree.

4. I have to say, his characteristics compared to other villains is on a whole new level. It more complex and strange.

Shin is a bad villain imo. I don't find him aesthetically pleasing, super powerful, or interesting. I'm still leaning towards him just being a basic henchman.

I didn't want this mini-series in the first place.

How could this have ended well? A mini-series taking place after a massive war with the 2 main characters becoming demi-gods.

This mini-series is all about raking in more cash. If I remember correctly, another famous series did something similar. When there is an end to something, it should be a 'real' end.

imho

PS: Also, not a fan of the new villain, feels like a cop-out villain in so many ways.

I was interested in him when it was revealed he had multiple sharingans, but him being knocked out cold by Sakura was lame for him,and made him look weak although that was a very great moment for Sakura, and the others, quite the way to make an entrance.

I think the similarities was done on purpose, as in it will be revealed that this guy is mimicking others abilities. Perhaps he's doing it to help himself "evolve", what better way is there to become stronger other than copying the abilities of some of the best Shinobi in history? Steal Sasuke's eye(s)? Well he wants to do that aswell.

Everything from the main story wasn't covered, such as why Kaguya wanted an army, what Sasuke did on his journey, what happened to Orochimaru, and Taka, where Kaguya is from, etc. And it seems that the new storyline will cover all of this, and more.

If everything was covered, and the story continued then yeah we could say he's doing it for the money.

By touching an object or even a person, Minato could mark it with a tattoo like stamp. Afterwhich, and for all time, he could teleport to that location in an instant as long as the marking wasn't discovered. By touching Sasuke's sword, Shin marked it and therefore, he was able to manipulate it at will from that point forward. You can assume that all his weapons, and his clone 'sons' are also marked this way as he can manipulate them freely.

To be fair almost every villain in naruto is in many ways a rehash of the previous one. I mean just think of how many villains in naruto reanimate a dead corpse to use as a pawn.

To be honest kishi isn't that good at writing villains.

I must have never got that part. Thanks.

Yeah, I thought he had telekinesis but he needs a seal in order to use TK..lame. But his ideology seems new. He doesn't want peace but the opposite.

You have a point, but something about this feels so wrong. : \

Still trying to enjoy it though :D

Where Kaguya is from will never be revealed. Kishi is playing with our imagination by insinuating she could be an alien. That will not be revealed in canon form, I'd bet on it. Kaguya needing an army is explained by her needing a way to rule. Considering she's a single being, it makes dominating a world easy. That will also not be revealed as you hope. What Sasuke did on his journey is not relevant. The best you will get are flashbacks that are relevant to the current plotline, but you won't get a grand synopsis or anything.

The unique nature of every Akatsuki member is variety enough in my opinion to argue he's not bad at writing villains. Yes, they all did share a lesser form of immortality, but they were all very unique, especially with their offensive abilities. My point with Shin Uchiha is that all his powerful abilities mimic previous shinobi.

Shin was never meant to be ¨new¨ or that powerful b/c he is obviously not a true villain, or the final villain more accurately.

First off, he was Oro's test subject. That in itself tells us he is not the true brains behind anything.

Also, this is a set up for the Movie of course. And Sasuke commented on this ¨Army¨ that has now been revealed to be Shins. The final piece to the puzzle is the fact that someone more evil than Kayuga is lurking behind the shadows playing puppet master, just as Black Zetsu did to Madara. Madara ¨thought¨ the Eternal Genjutsu plan was his own idea, but in the end it obviously wasn't.

Point is, I dont think this manga series was meant to display the ¨true villain¨ which will obviously be revealed in the movie. This Shin (older) is just a pawn and the younger Shins are his army... but the true villian is not elder Shin. He is garbage and will probably die before the manga series is over. Dont expect to much from him lol Elder Shin is garbage. He got all them damn eyes and can't even do Izanagi!!!!!!

This will eventually turn into another world war, but this time instead of 1000000000 White Zetsus with garbage abilities, we will see a White Zetsu-like army of stronger soldiers with the Sharingan/MS and mini Juubis assisting them. Im actually excited to see this war, it will force the participants to fight harder than they did against the easy @$$ White Zetsus who had NO SPECIAL ABILITIES. This just might be epic lol somebody has to DIE against this many MS users... just imagine how powerful the Final Villain must be !!!!!!
