Shikamaru is said to be as smart as Kakashi. In terms of intelligence Kakashi is not as smart as Oro or Hiruzen. Intelligence isn't everything when you consider how these shinobi lost in battle. What Shika doesn't have that the other eggheads in the shinobi world do have is offensive jutsu. His taijutsu is worse than Hinata's and his ninjutsu (shadow possession) consumes a lot of chakra. Just look at his fights against Temari, Tayuya and Hidan 1st time and Hidan 2nd time. He wears himself out quickly using that one jutsu. A jutsu he uses while being immobile. So it's not a matter overusing stamina. The chakra demands for shadow possession outweigh the benefits of using it.

It's why of the Ino-Shika-Cho, only Choji is deployed as an offensive weapon. Shika and Ino are support types.

Lol if Shikamaru can outsmart Tayuya with no intel then he can outsmart Hinata. She puts up a decent fight though. And asking what strategy he would employ when Shikamaru is more intelligent than most people here doesn't make sense. But we do know one thing, Shikamaru is leagues above Hinata in terms of intelligence.

I think the first step would be to blind Hinata with something while she has Byakugan on, as without her eyes she is royally screwed. Then it's shadow stitching jutsu to the heart from there.

air palm shuts down his entire arsenal/controls range, byakugan can see his ninjutsu like neon lights & he is slower than her by default...or is someone gonna argue he has any chance in cqc?

shadows are connected links, not independent projectiles, so they can't get fully/tangibly into a blind spot, as a part of the connection to shika/a tree will always be in her visual range
