A Sharia court in Indonesia's conservative Aceh province sentenced two gay men to a public caning Wednesday.

The men, ages 20 and 23, were arrested in March by vigilantes within their community in Banda Aceh, the capital of Aceh province.

They were subsequently found guilty of violating Aceh's strict Islamic laws and were sentenced to 85 lashes, according to Evendi, the head of Sharia law enforcement in Banda Aceh.

I mean law is law. But isn't this just barbaric?

I somewhat understand the issue with banning homosexuality in their country and considering it a disease. No one is forced to accept Western Culture.

But why can't they try to be decent people? This is so old fashioned and cruel it pains me. If it's a disease then try to cure it by peaceful means. Isn't Islam supposed a be a Religion of Peace?

Nice going public lashing two people infront of a crowd while they are filming the event.

Why are most Islamic countries fine with punishing people in the name of Allah when Allah said himself only he will judge and punish the sinner?

What do you expect? It's their country and their religion, they knew the law and should've abide by it. They're lucky, because back in the ancient it was punishable by death.

In this particular case; I could point a finger at the public lynching of gays in Russia and some parts in East Europe.
Other than that; Yeah, the people that identify with islam tend to be problematic wherever they settle. Especially in countries like Indonesia.

I'm pretty sure they destroyed two families with this. I can't imagine how their mothers will react to this.

Exactly. :lol
Bloody hell. If it's a disease then cure it properly. You dont see cancer patients getting lashed in public in hopes of curing them.

because humans love to use everything (religion, money etc) and change/fit it for their own benefits.. controling your country and it's people with fear is working as we can see with our western govs funding the terrorists groups that harm their own people

Ah here comes another Islam bashing thread, for people to judge muslims...

OT: Well sharia was established because they knew that era would change and things won't always be as they were in Prophet's time. As the time will change rules and punishments will need to be changed as well, but I guess the Mullahs just forgot to change the rules as they're busy fighting each other and calling each other non-muslims.

Secondly I cannot really sympathize with the guys who were punished, because barbaric as it is, its still law and no matter what you should abide by the law. You can try and get the law changed but until its changed you have to abide by it.....

So if homosexuality is a disease you cure them with physical and mental abuse? If that's how it is just as fell start lashing cancer patients you might cure them is way.
They shouldn't have broken the law.
Hypocrisy. The Quran says that you have to respect personal space and privacy of others. Yet in order to expose the guys they broke a law themselves.

I don't even judge them for banning homosexuality but their act of treating people who don't affect your OWN life.

This is not a bash thread. Don't be such a sjw.
I posted the news and shared my standpoint. Seriously do you expect me to praise this act?

In order to expose their relationship they broke into their home and just broke a law by default too.

It's their country and their rules. Deal with it. Not everyone and not every country is gonna accept the LGBT. Stop trying to force it on people because the hypocrisy goes both ways.

These two guys knew the law and they should've abide by it knowing the punishment.

It's been like that since ancient times. Russia now has FEMA concentration camps for the LGBT. This is how the world has been for centuries.

No one deserves torture and abuse, but people need to wake up and accept the fact that a lot of people in this world will never accept the LGBT and will go so far to hurt them and kill them.

I didn't mean you were bashing Islam, just meant that in every post where a religion is the main Topic, people from other religion just come and start bashing the religion even though they don't know about it. Also as I said before, yes they were wrong to do so, but they have already established a law. Wrong as it is, its still a law. But honestly what can you expect. Islamic laws of old times are only being followed to a tee by people who are illiterate or are brain washed by Mullahs. In saudi arabia they will cut of the hands of the person who shakes hands with a woman who isn't mehram for him, but apparently the king can do it freely.....

The difference here is that
Sharia is not just the Quran, but also the Hadith and 3 or 4 other sources. It is also divided into Quranic and Islamic Law, meaning they use the Quran aswell as the other 4 sources as interpretation, which is called fiqh and is dependant on the individual.

I can tell You obviously didn't read my thread. I guess you are mentally challenged or smth. I already stated that I respect their law. I'm doubting their choice of Action. They can't punish in the name of Allah that's pretty much breaking the law by default.
These two guys knew the law and they should've abide by it knowing the punishment.
Again I respect the law and yes they brought that up to themselves.
It's been like that since ancient times. Russia now has FEMA concentration camps for the LGBT. This is how the world has been for centuries.
What exactly happens in those Camps?

No one deserves torture and abuse, but people need to wake up and accept the fact that a lot of people in this world will never accept the LGBT and will go so far to hurt them and kill them.
So you a technically saying torture is needed to show to the rest of the world that what homosexuality is wrong?

But this falls under punishment and they are judging those people. Things only Allah should do. So why can they break the law to suit their needs but can't accept gay people? It's exactly the same.

I have nothing against gays but that's how it is.
You seem biased to me but if you say so.

I thought you were directly qouting me^^
But still I think no one really bashed Islam. I don't think it's really bashing to say that lashing is old fashioned and only something third world countries would do because that is how it is.

Yeah in this thread no one did. Also it isn't just islam that gets bashed, its the smae for all the religions in one way or other.
But I still rest my case, law is law.
Muslim women in some major european countries are banned from wearing face veils in public, even though they wan't to. Some muslim players have to get pay cut because they don't want to have the alcohol logo on their shirts as it is against their religion. These are laws and have to be followed, in the same there country has a law and that has to be followed. Not saying that what they did was right or that the law is right just saying that don't break it, try to get it changed.....
