Yeah especially since DB GT was really short and non canon(wich makes it not really a continuation) and the the DB series whent over 15 years without new content like movies and a new series. It's almost like it's not beating a dead horse.

He doesn't really have a character besides being a plot device to explain how Itachi gained his MS. His fans right now are primarily Itachi fans who overlap and Uchiha fans (people who like every Uchiha regardless of character). He didn't have enough exposure.

I think people will remain more upset with the Obito reveal than this since Obito actually had several chapters to establish his character. Kakashi Gaiden was 50% him. Those chapters even led to him gaining a small fandom. Shisui doesn't have his own legitimate fandom, it's just fans of other characters who include him at times.

True. Plus, Tobi was a mystery since 2006 to be revealed in 2012. 6 years worth of the fandom making theories and so many were wrong (and angry as a result) in '12.

Pretty much this, if rin wasn't the reason or if she atleast wasn't mentioned so many times it wouldn't have been that bad infact Obito being tobi made for some emotional conflict with kakashi which was interesting. What wasn't was being spammed with rin this and rin that.

a) It's his best friend and a brother figure. This is much closer than the relationship Obito had with Rin.

b) Itachi is one of the fan favourite characters both in and out of Japan. Rin was not. People are just going to be happy or indifferent to the character regardless of what happens. And if they're annoyed, it will be a for a little while and those people will likely get over it, too.

c) Everyone in this fandom is used to Itachi being the character Kishimoto keeps relevant to the plot well after his death. This isn't new.

Hm, this somewhat saddens me.

I appreciated the friendship Itachi and Shisui had since it was realistic (not too goofy, forced, etc) even though it had very little screen time. Now, it will likely be ruined on Shisui's side.

Not to sound too cynical here, (on the contrary, this is optimistic)- but I'm really glad Kishimoto killed Itachi off when he did. He can be the only Uchiha with plot relevance to not be tarnished. He'll be safe until the end of these Naruto productions since Kishimoto plans on ending them after the movie.

Shisui was dead and Obito was supposed to be dead. If Kishi wants Itachi back, he's going to come back.
