then allows him to live in fear of his life

Orochimaru resisted it and was about to break it. Genjutsu did not defeat him.
Orochimaru is an immortal regenerating freak of nature that giggles at getting chopped to pieces. Losing a hand literally means nothing.
Orochimaru was dying and weakened, had no killing intent, and didn't even have all of his known abilities back then (like Edo Tensei or True Form).
Orochimaru tried and failed to take Itachi's body, and left.
Why would Itachi allow a notorious enemy of Konoha to live and later attack the village? How do you know the battle even ended there and we didn't just see the part where Itachi defended against Orochimaru's soul transfer?
Yamata no Orochi battled with Susanoo for a few minutes, then an ARMLESS Orochimaru came out to gloat since he didn't see Susanoo as a threat and believed that victory was guaranteed.

Right.
That literally means nothing, it has no context or relevance to this topic what so ever.
Orochimaru at 15/16 wasn't as strong as pre-Hebi Sasuke, but even without arms was still more powerful than Hebi Sasuke, and is currently deemed a threat to EMS Sasuke. It also didn't hurt that Orochimaru was jacking Sasuke with performance enhancers.
