I have read the arguments of everyone, in addition to reviewing the manga itself. With that said, I agree with the author on some aspects, but disagree on others.
First, things that are irrefutable. Tsunade is, and apparently always has been, the primary physical combatant of her squad. In other words, for team Hiruzen, she was the "taijutsu specialist." Jiraiya and Orochimaru both showed a preference for ninjutsu as their means of engaging an enemy, usually in the form of elemental jutsu (Jiraiya's fire and earth release jutsu,) summons as auxiliary weapons (toads to defend with shield/barrier/combination attacks, snakes from sleeves/mouth/attackers,) or bodily modifications (Jiraiya's sage mode, Orochimaru's serpent-like body and other modifications.) Comparatively speaking, Tsunade's lack of a strong ninjutsu base made her excel in taijutsu and medical ninjutsu. All of her fights must be decided via a direct blow from her, which in and of itself would take a level of proficiency to be able to even get an enemy within her striking range while nullifying their ranged attacks. Therefore, Tsunade's taijutsu, though decidedly straight forward, is highly effective. Her medical jutsu augment this by allowing her allowing her to nullify more damage than her enemy, while having the distinct advantage of being able to decide the fight in one blow. Tsunade is also therefore a master of battles of attrition. Though she has not shown as much finesse as Guy and Rock Lee, none of the fights that she was shown to actively partake in allowed her to fight as such because of inconvenient size differences (fighting against a giant Manda, or fighting against the giant susanoo Madara's.) When she was engaging a human sized enemy, Orochimaru and Kabuto took to using tactical retreating, and the wooden clone Madara was incapacitated.
Guy's taijutsu has been honed to mastery levels, whether it be his speed (able to intercept Gaara's sand on Lee,) his strength (able to force a man through a wall on pushing strength alone, breaking rocks with his elbow technique,) or technique (undoubtedly knows many styles, as all of his thrown punches, kicks, and other attacks are comparable to real world martial styles.) Guy is also accomplished in close range weapon usage and the utilization of the eight gates, the gates which diversify and strengthen his techniques even more. While he is not a medical ninja, his style seems to adapt around that through a philosophy of not allowing yourself to be hit, while raining attacks on the enemy swiftly and strongly. This can be readily seen in his fight with Tobi, where the simply being touched once would mean a loss of the battle. In short, Guy's style and Tsunade's style are different, but I would be inclined to give Tsunade the win, if not for her supplementary abilities OUTSIDE of a taijutsu fight.
The argument of the thread seems to be based around Sakura and Rock Lee, and this is where I differ from the author. Sakura and Rock Lee are the two characters described to be "most normal," and it shows, because they are the only characters to have completely imitated the fighting styles and philosophies of people they are not related to. This is not to say that they are not proficient as individual ninja, but as of now, they have yet to go beyond the levels of their teachers. Lee has shown no evidence of asakujaku or hirudora, and Sakura, despite now having the byakugou seal, lacks Tsunade's natural raw strength, stamina via Uzumaki and Senju lineage, summoning, etc. Until either show something NEW, they are not complete as stand alone fighters. However, because of what Lee was taught, I believe that he can defeat Sakura. Sakura's attacks, while powerful, should be easily readable to a taijutsu specialist such as Lee, and the direct blow itself either avoided or parried. From here, the more technique based Lee has more options to counter attack Sakura with (if the blow is parried by knocking her wrist, and thus incoming fist to the side, he can immediately launch attacks at her torso from within her now open defense.) From what I have seen, Sakura's strength and perhaps automatic healing are the only things enhanced, and enemies not even that versed in taijutsu have beaten her once she leaves herself open after every attack (Omoi, almost killed by the two Zetsu posing as a couple.) Sakura's weakness is her lack of defense in the wake of an attack (she poses too often) and the addition of healing only lessens the chance that she will focus on defense (much like Tsunade that steadily forgoes defense in the name of more savage offense.) Lee, being a taijutsu specialist, will rain blows on her for every such mistake that she makes, while dodging or parrying her attacks as he has drilled himself to everyday, and we are all aware of how serious he takes his training. No matter what amount of healing a person has, a kick to the throat or base of the neck is enough to at least put them down for a bit. I think that, while Tsunade has enough in her arsenal to defeat Guy, Sakura would not be able to reproduce that in a match with Lee. What do you think?
