That's what needs to happen. But the tough part is, you need to do this ALONE. You know both of the jutsu, so right now you have to find perfect timing. Perhaps you want to use the rasengan first due to the water's high speeds?

I hold out both hands and a wind rasengan is created by the help of my clones. once this jutsu is created, i gather a large amount of water in my other hand and i push both of them together

:| Well, you kind of can't do that lol. The thing is, you smashed both of your hands together, hurting yourself once the water turned into water vapor. You have to shoot the water out and thrust the rasengan out and hope that you got the timing correct.

*i throw the water sphere into the air and jump above it and thrusts the rasengan into it*
The only problem with that, is that unless you can somehow move yourself while in mid-air, you're gonna fall into the water since you're hand is connected to the rasengan. :| Nice thought though. xdhmm aha! i have a plan!

You can do that. =/ And then you and the clone will both hit them at angles. making them go forwards.
OR, you can make your hands come not direclyt together, but shoot the water at an angle so it shoots near the front of your body, while also thrusting the rasengan out in front of you, so that they're both pushed forwards being shot at different angles. :|
Whichever you prefer.
