Rasengan just explodes on impact
They both have different end results, rasengan's after effect is more devastating than chidoiri's piercing effect, I think the chakra put in both jutsu's are equal though.

argeed with the FRS idk how people confuse them
most people will say rasengan... the rooftop fight was one example... and in my opinion i would say that the reason they seem more equal in the fights is that Naruto isn't willing to kill sasuke so he's holding back... on the other hand, sasuke has his chidori powered up to kill naruto

now if u ask me which one i wud say Minato's rasengan pawns sasuke or kakashi's chidori netym...
bt still Rasengan has a typical edge over chidori.. coz its like a condensed, densed chakra which suddenly goes boom.. like a supernova or sumthing.. and wind>lightning.. bt chidori can be powerfull too depending on the user...

Are we doing this based on coolness or facts? Well here's my idea:
The updated chidori can be extended like a blade, can flow through weapons, and can be released in every direction allowing the user to affect multiple enemies, (like when Sasuke was practicing back when he was with Orochimaru and got every single target).
The updated rasengan or rasen-shuriken can be thrown, can greatly expand, and creates countless microscopic wind-blades that damage the body on a cellular level, then creates a huge wind sphere as an after-effect.
I'd say both of them are equal.

When collided, they are equal but as to which one is stronger hmm. Chidori has greater killing potential because, as we have seen, you can pretty much put a hole in there chest, but your attack has to be very accurate and the attack leaves you wide open during and after the attack. Thats why it can only be used with sharingan, to see counter attacks coming. Now the rasengan is like a bunker buster, it enters the body then explodes causing severe internal damage, debilitating or killing the opponent, either way they go flying. Even with gathering chakra to block it, it still does serious damage. However it is a close combat technique and is best utilized by attacking blind spots, so it works better with deversionary tactics i.e. kage buunshin, or speed attacks i.e. flying thunder god. Buuut in the end I'ld have to go with the rasengan since its size and power can be increased to rediculous levels.
How so? Have you not seen the variations that naruto has created of the Rasengan? He has just as many, if not more than Sasuke.
It's also stated that a fully matured/mastered rasengan is stronger than the chidori.
