I personally don't care. As long as there isn't a racist intention behind it, then go away. Words are not innately harmful, they carry the meaning we decide to have them carry. There are white people who use the word, and don't have racism behind it, they simply use it in the same endearing way minorities do. Like, I literally saw a tumblr post once(then again, it's freakin' tumblr) that said no white person should say the N-word because a white person using the N-word will always mean every black person ever is lesser, but a black person can say cracker anytime he wants because it's only towards white people in the past, and not the present, even if they're calling a white person who wasn't alive then a cracker. The hypocrisy in black people telling white people they can't use the N-word is unreal.

Not really. The thing is tumblr can have some really good displays of intelligence. The real problem isn't that everyone on tumblr are idiots, but that it's so easy to misinform and circlejerk. You can have someone say "I think Mitt Romney would be a great president" and end up seeing only reblogs saying "Yeah I agree" because of who you follow. There could be a lot of people who are reblogging with smart information countering the initial stupidity, but you might never see it because the person who makes the post available to you didn't reblog the post in a way that displays that. It's a flaw in the layout and working of tumblr, not entirely the people themselves.

Misinformation is a serious problem on tumblr. Been on it for 5 years now and throughout all the changes, people failing to fact check has stayed the same.

I grew up in Georgia. So I'm careful how I use it. But I learned from some adults that there are black people. Normal folks who go to work, pay taxes, whathaveyou. And ******s. Those that were in gangs or didn't contribute to society.

I agree. Racism is prejudice against a whole group, not an individual, based on their skin color or where they come from. Just because you get along with an individual (e.g. your best friend) doesn't mean you're not racist towards that individual's race.

Now obviously it lessens the chance of it, because it shows you have at least a basic amount of tolerance towards people of different races. However it does not mean you don't show prejudice or discrimination towards other black people. This example can be used in any manor and is not locked to whites and blacks.

All I want is for everyone to show at least a shard of tolerance. Open your minds to the bigger picture. We are one race; the Human race. Can we act like civilized beings?

The reason is simply, they know that being racist is taboo (because being a racist pretty much = the same as being a *******) so they try and convience themselves that they arent racist because they think of themselves as a good person, and they know a good person would not be a racist.
