I called this a discussion because I am not predicting anything and articulating the details of a theory. I also realize that the anime is not necessarily a predictor of the manga and that Kishi chooses to introduce things in the Naruto anime that are inconsistent with the manga. So these are simply some things that I have been thinking about over the course of the last two managa chapters. I am curious if anyone else has thoughts about them, as well.
With that disclaimer clearly in mind, I find it at least interesting, and possibly a source of insight, to note a few things which might be applicable to Infinite Tsukuyomi (IT). Of course this is a reference to Naruto 6 Road to Ninja. In particular, two things make this one (I said “one,” not “the only” or “the most true”) source of insight into Kishi’s thinking:
There are a few other minor points I think where Kishi was playing with some ideas around Tsukuyomi, but these are the major ones I think might give some insight into how Kishi deals with IT in the coming chapters (i.e. 678 onward).
Flame me if you must, but I am more interested in hearing ideas from other people about these points with respect to possible use as a means to combat Madara and IT in general. Also, if there are any other major insight that others picked up from Road to Ninja that I have not listed, by all means let’s hear your ideas.
Thanks for readking.
- Limited Tsukuyomi (LT) was introduced after (chronologically) Infinite Tsukuyomi and it was introduced basically as a warm-up exercise. Also noted for the record that it was referred to as a prototype, which implies limitations.
- It was written by Kishi. That might (possibly, could be) an exercise he undertook to explore how different plot items would play out in the context of Tsukuyomi in general.
- Crimson Moon Scroll – So introduced as some prophecy that clearly created concern and was thought by Naruto to be able to get them out of the fake world Obito created (thought to be Madara at the time, but we know now it was Obito). Interesting that the scroll was never actually read in the anime movie. However, Naruto did notice the moon was crimson at the time he and it was then that he threw his kunai at what turned out to be the crystal orb that Obito used to cast Limited Tsukuyomi, thereby dispelling the fake world (essentially cancelling the genjitsu).
- Obito, in speaking with Zetsu, noted that the world had its limitations and Obito had limitations within it. One blaring limitation was that once created, not even Obito could change it.
- Zetsu for his own part observed that Obito did not have full control over events in that world and there was a certain amount of “free will” if you like, for those who could maintain memories and recognize the differences from reality. (Very Matrix like, in that respect.)
- Those on which the LT was cast, namely Naruto and Sakura, were aware almost immediately that something was off. As they progressed deeper into the fake world, they became more aware and eventually were able to tell they were in a fake world and under genjitsu. However, despite knowing, they both very nearly slipped into the charms of the dream. It was strength of character, not to mention that the dream in reality is never what one imagines, which brought them back to consciously fighting against the dream state.
- Even when Obito tried to completely wipe Naruto’s memory, it did not work. His deepest memories that form the basis of what he believes were able to be recalled and brought him back.
- Kuruma also knew it was a fake world, noting that if Naruto died in the dream he, Kuruma, would likely be trapped.
