Even if they were able to make this happen, the subject would not be able to endure the emotional tragedies that will happen around him/her. Even if someday they make this possible I doubt that it would be used on everyone as it will be exclusive to "cosmo surfers" or people that has a great reasoning to live long.

In terms of our knowledge as of now, it would not be possible. My question is though that why did you chose trees and not some kind of organism or genetic engineering to extend life?

Extending lifespan is also a double-edged sword. I mean yeah it's great to live long but It would destroy the balance between life and death.

Well, some scientists do suspect that there may be "death gene" inside us, which determines how long we live. Of course, manipulation of this gene is a long way off, considering it's not proven that such a gene exist. But remember, we only know about 2% of what our DNA does.

how our DNA works is still a mystery. It's easy to think that a particular gene carries out a specific function, but they simply do NOT work this way. There are many processes that are just too complex to observe such as gene regulation (on and off-switches). Think of our genes as an intricate network, rather than some linear model.

DNA splicing (and other forms of genetic engineering) are used today, but it is highly a trial-and-error field. Incorporating foreign DNA into the human genome may cause unexpected results (i.e. new vulnerabilities to allergens), hence why DNA testing on humans is banned in pretty much every pro-human-rights country. A similar argument regarding consequential ambiguity is spouted by the anti-GMO community.It is an interesting thought though.

I remember reading about this in one of my science classes. It's really interesting reading scientist's interpretation of why we die. Death gene makes the most sense to me
