my money is on itachi.

but then again it would have to be a more "earlier" version of itachi where hes not partially blind or as sick.

I think Jiraya will win.... he'll outsmart itachi and destroy him easy... not only does he have more experience in fighting... im also sure he can easy overcome any jutsu or moves Itachi has... Jiraya prolly has alot more moves up his sleeves that we didnt see as well

Itachi defintly would win. I dont even like him, as a matter of fact Jiraiya is one of my fav characters but Itachi (obviously not being ill) could easily beat Jiraya. Maybe with a younger Jiraiya the fight would be more interesting but Itachi is (or was at his good times) practicaly invincible. He had amaterasu, susanoo, tsukuyomi. I mean I hate sasuke was the one who killed him and in that state because he may be the second more powerfull character of the whole story, following just madara maybe...

what proof do you have?

tsukuyomi - only works if you look at his fingers or his eyes (which Gai knew to follow his feet to fight him)

Amaterasu - take a lot out of a person on top of that it can be dodged

Susanoo - Itachi's trump card... took a lot out of him as well but also is dodge able any Ninja would know not to charge it...

also Sasuke didn't kill Itachi should check your information.

Let me first say neither would win this battle easily. I'm damn sure they'd both be 3/4 of the way dead after. These two are perhaps some of the most Brolic fighters in the entire series. Second this thread has been made a couple times, I'm not against it I'm just saying that I already posted my reason for why I think Jiraiya would win and don't feel like saying it again in full length.

Itachi will never be at full power with standard MS. It'll eat its way through one's eyesight the moment it's activated and the prolonged use will only inhance the strain. Itachi wasn't the type to do so like his dumb ass brother, but the affects are quick and even quicker with the use of the three key jutsu of MS.

Amatersu-avoidable, dependent on sight without which is practically useless.
Susanoo-requires mass chakra amounts which Itachi dosn't have, which is why it's his absolute last resort.
Tsukuyomi-requires direct eye contact, and mass amounts of chakra. Don't know if it can be released without Sharingan kekkei genkai??

A healthy Itachi would win. We never saw his true potential but we did see him quickly neutralize Orochimaro. To me that says a lot! Plus he had very powerful eyes and was very fast.

I personally think both Shinobi are of an incredible stature. Lets not forget that Jiraiya fought six of the Peins, killed four of them (One of them twice, I'm COUNTING IT!!) and on top of that lived against Naruto when he leaked the Seal on the Demon Seal on Naruto's gut.

I know that Jiraiya would be in it till the end and that to me equals out why I think he would defeat Itachi (Defeat not Kill).

Jiraiya would win, dont be stupid, this cartoon's showed us that no matter how strong your abilities are there is always a COUNTER for that. So Itachi was good for attack but Jiraiya was good for both attack and defense. Jirayia was 4th Hokage's teacher u wanna tell me that Itachi could kill the 4th hokage ? U must be joking . Agree with you , dont forget Oro was almost dead when he faught him, even now I dont think Oro is out for good , i think he's going to reapper some day

We have already seen Jiraiya at his full strength when battling Pain, and he still lost. On the other hand, Itachi was only shown in partial strength (when up against Kakashi in Part I) or in a dying state when he battled Sasuke, and still Sasuke was unable to defeat him.

It's from the Naruto databook. Itachi said the best he can do against Jiraiya is a stalemate. Stalemate = draw. I think he said that in sarcasm since he doesn't want to fight Jiraiya. And I don't think Jiraiya wants to battle him, too.

your argument is pretty stupid (sry), cause tsunade would lose to itachi and she is sannin too + orochimaru lost to itachi and he is stronger sannin than jiraya

we never know that orochimaru is stronger than jiraiya and about itachi vs jiraiya, i think it's a draw
