Hey there! Before we get started with the orientation, just wanna ask you a few things:

1. How knowledgeable are you with respect to the NV? The manga and anime specifically.
2. How familiar are you with the RP, if at all?
3. Do you have an approved bio? Would you prefer to do the orientation using our bios, or without RP'ing?

1. I have always been familiar with it in "it exists" kind of way. I plan to start watching the anime but I am by no means familiar with the manga or the anime for that matter.
2. I have in fact rped before but not this extensively involved or in this Naruto rp. I am starting to get familiar with certain aspects of this RP but I'm going to need a through explanation of everything.
3. I do not have an approved bio or any for that matter. I wouldn't even know how to go about making one that is usable. I wouldn't mind using your bios for the sake of the orientation.

Alright. Before I start going through the RP, I'll quickly go over the basics of the NV just to give context to everything that's in the RP. Then we'll get into a structured breakdown of all the main features in the RP, how to get started with bios, what battling is, making customs and playing in the NW. You can just use any character you like for the roleplaying, if you want to go through the orientation with RP. If not, I can just explain things to you directly. That sound good?

Alright, I'll be using my Ozymandias (Rider) bio.

The sun shone brightly on the empty prairie, the clouds absent, and the grass dancing gently in the breeze that swept over the land. Materialising in a golden flash of light before the boy, Ozymandias stands tall, knowing what his task would be in coming here. He ensure that by the end of the session, the young man before him would be ready to begin his journey into the ninja world.

"My name is Ozymandias. Ramesses II is my title, but you may refer to me by my real name. You are Kirito, and have come to learn the ways of the world."

Taking a moment to pause, Ozymandias utilises a simple Earth technique, creating two chairs that would face each other, out of the ground they stood upon. Taking a seat, the monarch beckons his new student to sit down as well. Once they're both seated, the pharaoh begins. He knew that this explanation would be a long one.

"Chakra is a form of energy that is inherent to every single living being. Originally, it came from what is known as the God Tree, and when its fruit was eaten, by a woman known as Ōtsutsuki Kaguya, she became the first to wield it. She passed the gift of chakra to her sons, Hagoromo and Hamura, and they too passed chakra to humanity. Now, every living thing produces chakra. It is created naturally in the body by the continuous moulding, or combination, of one's physical and spiritual energies. Physical energy is contained within the body's cells, and its production can be increased by physical training and exercise. Spiritual energy is derived from one's mind, and more can be created by studying and meditating. As one grows sharper physically and mentally, they are able to produce and possess more powerful chakra in greater amounts. At any given time, a ninja can only have a maximum, but it is possible to increase this limit slowly. Chakra is unique to every individual, giving off signatures and colors which can be perceived by sensory skills and ocular abilities, like the Sharingan. While most forms of Ninjutsu, ninja techniques, require chakra, some do not, such as Taijutsu, which are solely based on hand to hand combat. Though, some Taijutsu can be enhanced by chakra.

Chakra circulates throughout the body, in the same way blood does as its pumped by the heart throughout the body. It moves through what is known as the Chakra Circulatory System, and there are specific points on the body where it is released to perform techniques. These points are called Tenketsu, and there are 361 on the body. Now, chakra is used for all kinds of purposes. The most simple of which includes channeling it to the hands or feet, allowing one to perform feats such as standing on water, or clinging to the side of a tree or wall. For more complex feats involving chakra, handseals are required to assist the user in the moulding and manipulation of chakra, until it becomes easier. As I said before, it comes with training and exercise.

There are two kinds of ways to manipulate chakra. The first is Shape Manipulation. This involves controlling the basic shape and movement of this energy, shaping and it to suit your needs. For example, chakra is normally shapeless, as it is simply energy, but I can shape it to resemble a ball. The second type of manipulation is known as Nature Manipulation, and this is involves changing the properties of chakra itself to resemble natural elements that you see in the world, such as fire or wind. There are numerous elements that exist, each nature bestowing different qualities and capabilities upon chakra. Fire, naturally, is an element that bestows heat and a somewhat explosive nature. The nature of Wind can make chakra into blunt weapons or sharp blades. Water can create concussive and overwhelming torrents. Earth can create sturdy defences and solid weapons from the earth itself. Lightning is able to destroy and electrocute. I shall explain how these abilities interact and the implications of their nature later during our lesson. These elemental natures can also be combined in order to form entirely new natures. An example would be combining Lightning and Earth to create Blast Release, or Fire and Lightning Release to form Dark Release. Outside of the elements, there also exists the ability to use your chakra to induce illusions on people, known as Genjutsu. These illusions work by interfering with an opponent's brain function and chakra flow, making them see or feel certain things which aren't actually there.

There are two other types of chakra, additionally. Sage Chakra, and Tailed Beast Chakra. Sage Chakra is a form of energy that does not come from the body, but instead, flows throughout the world itself. Very few are able to train themselves to absorb and harness this energy, but it is particularly powerful, and grants benefits that normal chakra does not, and allows its wielder to utilise abilities that are otherwise not possible. It bolsters the user's natural abilities, such as their strength, speed and senses, and can increase the power of their techniques. Tailed Beast Chakra is chakra that is found within beings that were born of Yin-Yang Release. When Kaguya, the first wielder of chakra, went insane, she assimilated the God Tree and became the first Tailed Beast. When she was defeated, Hagoromo split this original Tailed Beast into nine individual creatures. The chakra possessed by these beings is insurmountable, and can be used to devastating effect. In a similar way to Sage Chakra, it can be used to benefit it's user if utilised in a certain way, but it is also particularly volatile by its very nature."

Sighing, Ozymandias takes a moment to gather himself after a lengthy period of speaking. He also allows Kirito a brief pause, so that he can properly process the information.

"Are there any questions? If not, I shall move on."

A brilliant light appeared and within was a interesting man. He possesed great knowledge as he enlightened me in the ways of this world. He showed me the uses of this great energy source called chakra. The complexities of this energy fascinated me greatly.

I wanted to continue listening, everything made much sense. "Please, continue Ozymandias."

"By the end of this lesson, I will test your knowledge on the information we've covered. But you needn't worry about that for now, my only goal right now is to give you the tools you need."

Ozymandias raises a single arm from the chair, opening his palm. From the Throne, he calls to his hand an ornate scroll with golden rollers, a testament to the abundance of luxury items that he boasts as a king. Tossing the scroll to his student, Ozymandias speaks again.

"Contained within the contents of that scroll is the information that I will be teaching you during this lesson. There are four sections, and I will cover them each, one at a time. Because of your inexperience, I will begin with the first section of the scroll, unless you wish to discuss other parts first. I do not mind."

Sitting with a slightly slouched posture, the pharaoh awaits his student's decision.

Kirito read over the scroll. It seemed as if the topics got harder to understand as you went on. Because of this, he was fine with starting with the first section considering he didn't know much already.

"I believe I will follow you on this journey of knowledge. Start with whatever you feel is fit. If that means starting with first section, than I will do that."

He sat their patiently as the wise teacher gathered his words for what he was about to say next.

Nodding, Ozymandias begins the lesson.

"There are two types of biographies you can create, canon or custom. Canon biographies are characters that are originally found in the series, such as Sasuke or Naruto. These biographies, particularly the stronger ones, have access to unique abilities that can only be used by them. This can be considered as an advantage, as these abilities are often quite powerful too. However, a downside to characters such as these, is that they require varying amounts of kumi to obtain. Many canon bios cost kumi to acquire, and the more powerful bios can be quite expensive to make. Another potential disadvantage is that, while these characters do have their own assortment of unique, powerful abilities, they cannot possess abilities that they didn't show off in the series. For example, a Six Paths Sasuke bio can use the Sharingan and Rinnegan, but he cannot possess Sage Mode.

On the other hand, biographies like you can, because you do not come from the Naruto series. If you were to be a biography, you could be considered custom. You could be an Uchiha, Uzumaki, or whatever you choose. So long as you are a human, or humanoid, you can come from anywhere. An advantage of custom bios over canon ones is the freedom you have in selecting abilities to use. You generally have a greater variety of skills and abilities to choose from and use. However, like canon bios, the accumulation of abilities on a custom bio can be particularly expensive, if you choose certain combinations. Also, while custom bios don't have any cost, except for if you want them to have certain abilities, such as Ink, you may be unable to make them if someone else already has your character, and they don't give you permission to make them. I will cover ability combinations soon."

Taking a moment of pause, Ozymandias allows his student some time to process the information.

"Are there any questions before we move on to ranks?"

Kirito was intrigued by the custom bios as is sounded like the best route to take. There was nothing that he questioned as of yet, so he let him continue.

"Please continue on", he said.

"Alright. Now, the rank of a biography determines the abilities it can use, as well as its stats. All members begin at the rank of Academy Student, which you would be once you make your first bio, and by battling others or doing missions, you rank up and gain access to more of the Basic Abilities, and you are able to choose from other abilities which are bound to certain ranks. I shall show you the list of ranks now."

Combining his Lightning and Fire Release chakra, Ozymandias creates a moderately-sized mass of sky-blue energy, with what appeared to be black-colored energy spanning across it. It was writing that contained the details of each rank, how to rank up, and what the Basic Abilities were.

Academy Student:
  • The default bio rank
  • Base health = 35 / Base chakra = 300
  • 2 basic elements + 1 basic ninja skill up to C-ranks
  • Able to submit up to C-rank customs of any learned fields

Genin:
  • Rank-up from Academy Student requires completion of 4 D/C-rank missions and/or battles
  • Base health = 75 / Base chakra = 600
  • 3 basic elements + 2 basic ninja skills up to B-ranks
  • Able to submit up to B-rank customs of any learned fields

Chūnin:
  • Rank-up from Genin requires completion of any combination of 5 B/A-rank missions and/or battles
  • Base health = 100 / Base chakra 1,000
  • 4 basic elements + 4 basic ninja skills up to A-ranks (1 basic element up to S-ranks)
  • Able to submit up to A-rank customs of any learned fields

Jōnin:
  • Rank-up from Chūnin requires completion of any combination of 6 S-rank missions and/or battles
  • Base health = 160 / Base chakra = 1,600
  • 5 basic elements + 4 basic ninja skills up to F-ranks
  • Able to have a third bio
  • Able to submit up to F-rank customs of any learned fields

Sage:
  • Rank-up from Jōnin requires completion of a sage mission or purchase for 25,000 kumi
  • Base health = 200 / Base chakra = 2,000
  • Able to submit a custom clan (CC)
  • Able to learn a third custom fighting style (CFS)
  • Able to make use of a potential fifth custom element (CE) on a bio
  • Able to submit up to 4 CJ instead of the norm (3 per cycle)
  • CJ limit increases to 45, up from the standard cap of 35

Basic Elements & Ninja Skills:

Basic Elements: Doton - Fūton - Katon - Raiton - Suiton | Ninja Skills: Ninjutsu - Genjutsu - Taijutsu - Kenjutsu

Lower & Higher Ranked Battles:
  • Fighting a bio one rank below your own rank = 0.5 points
  • Fighting a bio of equal rank = 1.0 points
  • Fighting a bio one rank above your own rank = 1.5 points
  • Fighting a bio two rank above your own rank = 2.0 points
Ex: You are Chūnin rank and all your fights are against Chūnin-rank bios. 6 are needed to rank up.
Ex: You are Chūnin rank and all your fights are against Sage-rank bios. 3 are needed to rank up.

"This is the likely simplest part of the training to grasp. For any of your skills that you've learned, you are able to choose specialties for them. Specialties grant your bio certain benefits when using skills and abilities that you've chosen to specialise in. When picking specialties, you are able to pick from 3 preset combinations:

  • 2 Primary and 1 Secondary, 1 Extra Specialty and 1 CFS Specialty
  • 1 Primary and 2 Secondary, 1 Extra Specialty and 1 CFS Specialty
  • 1 Primary, 1 Secondary, 1 Unique, 1 Extra Specialty and 1 CFS Specialty
When selecting your specialties, you have a wide range to choose from. It is a good idea to select your specialties based on skills which you prefer using in battle. For example, I prefer using Fire Release in battle, so I have it as a Primary Specialty, which allows me to perform any Fire techniques with one seal if they require any. Specialties are designed to enhance the performance of a chosen field, such as reducing chakra costs, increasing damage of certain techniques, and others. You can read through them here."

Handing another scroll to his student, Ozymandias would allow him to read the information presented. He would wait silently until his student was ready to move on, or had another question.

Now came the final part of the first section. Things had gone smoothly thus far, and Ozymandias was pleased with his student's attentiveness.

"Now, as a ninja, there are many abilities out there that you are able to use. I shall briefly explain how each of them work, and the differences between them."

Combining his Lightning and Fire chakra together once again, Ozymandias creates the image of a table, containing numerous names of abilities.

"I will start from the top left of this list, and work my way to the right. Hidden Abilities are trained skills unique to certain ninja clans. For example, the Nara clan has the ability to manipulate their shadows in order to attack and restrain others. Or, the Aburame clan's affinity for the use of bugs that live inside them. In order to utilise these abilities, you must belong to the clan which these abilities come from. An advantage of these abilities is that none of them cost kumi to make bios for or use, though some HA's have advanced versions which may require kumi.

Kekkei Genkai, literally meaning 'Bloodline Limit', is the name of a skill that is unique to a genetic lineage. It is similar to Hidden Abilities, in that these skills are typically possessed by ninja of certain clans, but a Kekkei Genkai is not a skill anyone can acquire through training, it belongs to their bloodline. An example of a Kekkei Genkai is the Sharingan, one of the Three Great Eye Techniques, and is unique to the Uchiha clan's bloodline. This ability allows the user to perceive the flow of chakra in the environment and others, enhance their predictive abilities, and cast unique illusions. Another example of a Kekkei Genkai is the Dead Bone Pulse of the Kaguya clan. This allows clan members to manipulate their bone structure, creating weapons out of their skeletal system. Some of these abilities cost kumi to make initially, such as Dead Bone Pulse, while others only require kumi to make if it is their advanced versions, such as the Sharingan.

Advanced Ninjutsu can be learned by anyone. They are unique skills, some of which are their own element, others are special manipulations of existing elements. An example of a unique element is Sound or Ink Release, which allow for the manipulation of either sound waves or ink respectively. Rain Release is a manipulation of Water Release, one of the Basic 5 Elements. Exceptions to these are puppetry and sensory, both of which are manipulations of one's raw chakra. For sensory, it allows users to sense the chakra of others, and for puppetry, it allows for the control of mechanical bodies that have built-in weapons. These all cost kumi to acquire.

Modes can also be learned by anyone, and are abilities which are meant to confer supplementary benefits to the user. These mainly include boosts to the strength of their techniques, though the specific areas that are enhanced differ between each mode. For example, the Eight Inner Gates purely focus on increasing the speed and physical strength of the user, while a Curse Mark may augment the user's elemental skills. Like Advanced Ninjutsu, they also cost kumi to obtain.

Advanced Elements are unique elemental skills formed from different combinations of the Basic 5 Elements. They can come in numerous forms, such as Earth and Lightning being combined to form an explosive chakra known as Blast Release, Water and Wind forming Ice Release. The list goes on. Each of these skills have their own unique characteristics that makes them useful in battle, and a great advantage to them is that they are free to make. The only exception to this is Wood, Blaze and Magnet Release. For Wood, you cannot access all Wood techniques unless you have certain bios. Blaze is a unique variant of Fire Release that is unique to the Mangekyo Sharingan, and some versions of Magnet Release also require certain bios. These three things may require kumi, depending on what you want to use.

Universal Abilities are different fields which, one purchased, can be used across all of your bios. This is the only similar characteristic between them, and they are all otherwise particularly different. There's not much else to say here, other than that some cost kumi to obtain, like Kinjutsu and Medical Ninjutsu, and others don't, such as Custom Weapons and Custom Summonings. I've already covered individual characters briefly beforehand, so those should be clear now."

This was a particularly lengthy part of the training to cover, but it was necessary. Hoping that he hadn't overwhelmed his student, he waits momentarily before speaking.

"Have you any questions? If there's anything confusing in what I said, let me know, and I will try to clarify."

Really sorry about the delay. Last week of uni was hectic.

Nodding his head, Ozymandias continues the lesson.

"We'll move on to battling now. Primarily, battles are done in the Battle Arena section, though they can also take place in the Ninja World section. There are three rules that form the foundation for battling, you must understand them properly before you battle anyone. I shall go over them first, before moving on to the other aspects of battling.

Fights are turn-based, meaning that each player gets one post to create a move, where their bio can act in any way they wish in order to attack an opponent or defend themselves, or create set up for future moves. Each player will continue to post their moves, responding to the actions and events outlined in the previous post(s) until one player is unable to continue (depleting their health, surrendering, etc). This is the way battles are conducted between two players, and I'll break down the three rules I mentioned and explain how they fit into and affect the system of battling."

Procuring a scroll that was stored in the Throne, Ozymandias hands it to the boy. It would contain three different sections, each one explaining the respective fundamental rules of battle.

Timeframe is a rule that dictates the order or sequence of events between each player's moves, and the flow of a battle. Put simply, the key rule of timeframe is that the first aggressive action of a move can only be reacted to after it has happened. This is important as it provides a basis for the chronology of the moves used, creating the timeframe of the battle. For example, a player grabs a kunai and throws it at the opponent at the start of their turn. The opponent can only respond to the kunai being thrown once it leaves the player's grasp, and they cannot do anything to interrupt that action before it completes. The same principle applies for jutsu. If player A releases a ball of lightning at an enemy, player B cannot respond by interrupting player A performing the jutsu, the lightning must be released before player B can counter it. Moulding chakra also initiates the fight, and like before, it cannot be interrupted. You can start acting from that point on, e.g. moulding chakra or taking a stance, but not in any way that would allow you to interrupt an opponent's first action.

You should also take note that the chronology of moves used strictly follows an ABABAB scheme. For example, player A releases a fireball at player B, player B responds by summoning a wall of water in front of him. Player B cannot use another jutsu until player A uses his second jutsu, as this breaks the ABABAB scheme. I'll demonstrate this with a brief example:

In their first move, player 1 utilises three jutsu:

Jutsu 1
Jutsu 2
Jutsu 3

In their first move, as a response to player 2's move, responds with these:

Jutsu A
Jutsu B
Jutsu C

The sequence of the jutsu being used would look like this:

Jutsu 1 (Player 1)
Jutsu A (Player 2)
Jutsu 2 (Player 1)
Jutsu B (Player 2)
Jutsu 3 (Player 1)
Jutsu C (Player 2)

In this example, player 2's first jutsu comes after player 1's first, player 1's second jutsu then comes after that. Player 2's second jutsu comes after player 1's second jutsu.

There are two exemptions to this. Passive jutsu don't take a slot in timeframe, meaning that they can be used at any point in time during the turn. Also, if you are fighting with a clone or a summoning animal, or any other entity which can use jutsu, you can both perform separate jutsu that both occupy the same slot in timeframe. For example, you create a shadow clone next to you, and you use a wind technique to attack an opponent while your clone uses a fire technique at the same time. This means that the timeframe would look like this:

Your Wind Technique / Clone's Fire Technique
Enemy Jutsu 1

If the performance of techniques by you and your clone isn't simultaneous, then the timeframe reverts to the ABABAB scheme:

Your Wind Technique
Enemy Jutsu 1
Clone's Fire Technique

The Jutsu Limit states that, in a single move, only 3 jutsu can be used. Jutsu which are activated passively do not count towards this limit, meaning that you can still use other jutsu to fulfill this limit. For example, Chakra Sensory can be activated passively after a certain period of having the ability, and thus it doesn't take up one of the 3 allotted jutsu to activate, allowing me to the other 3 jutsu slots how I please. As I mentioned before, battling is turn based, meaning you post your moves, and the opponent responds to your moves with theirs. Depending on how your opponent responds, not all of your jutsu will happen, as they may use jutsu that require you to perform a certain action in place of what you originally intended.

When responding to an opponent's jutsu, you have to cannot simply "block the attack". The method you use to block or avoid the attack must be specific, and must be done using a jutsu of your own. For example, my opponent uses the Great Fireball technique to attack me, I cannot just jump out of the way. This is called freeform movement, and would be considered invalid as a defence against someone attacking you. An example of a valid counter would be to utilise Earth Release: Enclosing Wall to create a wall that tanks the fireball, preventing it from reaching me. There are multiple means of defence, such as using Taijutsu techniques to dodge oncoming jutsu, provided that the movement would allow you to properly remove yourself from the danger.

*no worries, I've been busy with school*

Kirito silently read the scroll, committing to memory all that he could. The fighting system was quite simple but it could allow for complications, so it was best to learn it well now.

"I have no questions about the battle system at this time", Kirito concludes. "Please continue on."
