Development Notes:

Hello everyone, I'm new here. Just made an intro thread. Over the next few days I'm going to be developing a One Piece RPG within this thread. I have a vision on how I'd like to set it up and how it will work in practice. I've done this before so I'll be using systems and stuff that have been used in the past and are tested. Despite that, this is a new project, with a new community (hopefully some will get onboard early, it helps, it really does).

I want to keep it relatively simple so it will always be easy to get into. Anyhow, I'll be starting now. Feel free to post here to say hi, ask questions, make suggestions, and whatever.

Yosh! Here I go. : o

One Piece RPG

Welcome to OPRPG! This is a text based role-playing game where participants can create their own unique characters and engage in adventures. This includes casual combat, free roaming threads, story oriented scenarios, community trading, and more. The OPRPG aims to keep it relatively simple, and while the concept is to develop this over time, it will always prioritize keeping it easy to get into.

As for the actual RP, it's alternate reality, so no canon characters exist within our setting, however the general setting is the same. Marineford exists, Loguetown exists, and so on. The lore will be filled by NPCs and us. So there you have it.

If this were a video-game I'd call it patch 1.1. We're simply starting it simple and see where we go with it. No stress.

So for starters, all you need to do is create a character profile and start your adventure in Eichiro Oda's incredible world of One Piece!

*Free Roam Thread: These threads are typically where RP actually happens outside the battlegrounds. A Free Roam thread has a theme/location. Water 7 could be a Free Roam, for instance, but more often than not it will be a custom island created for us to explore. Many interactions and short skimmishes can take place here.

*Campaign Threads: Unlike Free Roams, these have a specific plot and objective. Hosting a campaign requires dedication, as is seeing one out as a participant, but more often than not, the payout is a lot greater than other threads.

The Game Masters
The Game Masters are people who make sure the RP runs smoothly; they are the key decision makers of the OPRPG. They approve character biographies, balance out systems, and generally work on the RP. The team will eventually/hopefully grow to more people than just myself.

The Stat System
The stat system is very simple, you begin at level 20. For each level you have 5 available stat points to allocate into different stat categories.

So 20 x 5 = 100 <--- These are your starting stat points.

Remember, this is a casual stat system, and while it is important to have as an estimate of one's combat abilities, it more of a guideline. Expressive writing, creativity, and common sense are what we should be focusing on. The goal is to keep the layout clean and simple, but also allow development.

Stat Categories
Strength:
Agility:
Vitality:
Devil Fruit Mastery: (optional/must have a devil fruit)
Fighting Style Mastery: (optional/must use a fighting style)
Color of Armaments: (optional/unlocked at level 30)
Color of Observation: (optional/unlocked at level 30)

Example, you're level 20 which means you have 100 stat points to start with. Here's a newbie character with a Devil Fruit.

Strength: 20
Agility: 30
Vitality: 20
Devil Fruit Mastery: 30

Or here's a character that is more versatile as he uses both a Devil Fruit, and a Fighting Style.

Strength: 20
Agility: 20
Vitality: 20
Devil Fruit Mastery: 20
Fighting Style Mastery: 20

Stat Caps
The maximum amount of points you can put in a single category depends on your overall level.

Level & Caps
20-29 - 40
30-39 - 50 - Haki Unlocked
40-49 - 60
50-59 - 70 -
60-69 - 80
70-79- 90
80-89 - 100
90-100 - 120

So beginner characters can have a maximum of 40 points in a single category.

Devil Fruits

There are several ways one can obtain a Devil Fruit in the OPRPG. The quickest one is choosing an available Devil Fruit from the Circulation List. Anything included in the circulation list can be claimed. Devil Fruits that have already been claimed include the username of the person who claimed them next to it. You can always create a custom but the approval process is rigid to ensure that we don't end up with Devil Fruits that aren't suitable for the overall One Piece environment, or don't resemble existing fruits too much. Custom Logias and Mythical Zoans aren't allowed until further notice.

Note that the One Piece RPG will always be casual friendly in the sense that it sees itself first and foremost as a game. It does not aim to punish you (too much), so with that in mind there is a way to change your Devil Fruit after having consumed one without loss of levels. More will be elaborated elsewhere.

Circulation List:
*All Normal/Ancient Zoans are always available, ones that are taken will be listed.

*Note that Devil Fruits that aren't listed here are either banned, undecided, forgotten (ups), or simply cannot be claimed via the circulation list, as most Logia, Mythical Zoans, and some paramecia.

Claiming/Maintaining a Devil Fruit
Since there are so many fruits and we want to keep them in circulation for active people, once you claim a Devil Fruit you have 3 days to create a character profile, and 7 days to make an initial post. After your initial post you must make a post every 28 days to protect your fruit. If someone hasn't posted within 28 days of their last post, then the Devil Fruit can be claimed by another upon request. This rule is subject to change.

Rare Devil Fruits
While the circulation list has some very powerful Devil Fruits, some have been labeled as "Rare" Devil Fruits and aren't available in the circulation list. Instead, you must obtain them via other means, mostly via RP. Occasionally the opportunity to obtain these via Free Roams and Campaigns might occur, or even via the Black Market which will be included in a later patch.

Banned Devil Fruits
Some Devil Fruits have been deemed too overpowered or have abilities that simply don't work well in a text-based role-playing format. As such, they have been removed from the game and can never be used.

Woshu Woshu no Mi

Fighting Styles

Not everything in One Piece is about Devil Fruits, in fact, some skill-sets can prove to be as deadly or even deadlier than your average Devil Fruit user. Aim to become a master swordsman like Zoro or Mihawk, a Martial Arts specialist like Jimbei with his Fishman Karate, or a Rokushiki Master like Rob Lucci. All of these unique, and awesome abilities we see in the world of One Piece are labeled as Fighting Styles in the One Piece RPG.

Haki

There are two main types of Haki, each represented by a stat category within the One Piece RPG. These are armaments and observation. A third type of Haki exists that isn't repsented by a dedicated stat category but that's a different ball park entirely. Here, you can read about the different types of abilities you can acquire depending on your Haki stats.

Armaments
1-20 - Low concentrations that create basic invisible armor, partially. Allows user to reach the substantial body of an opponent.
21-40 - Slightly more masterful use, can now coat projectiles and weapons with invisible armor.
41-60 - Higher concentration reached, can now partially harden one's limbs and weapons.
61-80 - Can now coat entire body with hardening. Or use invisible armor to coat projectile attacks such as air-slashes.
81-100 - Advanced Armaments achieved.
101-120 - ???

*General potency of armaments is measured by stat.

Observation
10-20 - Can sense the presence of others in a small radius. High concentration required. Cool-down 3 turns. Radius x2 of stat points.
21-40 - Basic power sense unlocked, high concentration still required. Radius x2 of stat points.
41-60 - Cool-down 2 turns. Less straining use achieved. Radius x2 of stat points.
61-80 - Cool-down 1 turn. Can now begin to visualize one's aura, low concentration required. Good pin-pointing. Radius x2 of stat points.
81-100 - No cool-down required, natural usage without needing to concentrate all too much. Radius x4.
101-120 - Katakuri

Ok done.

Sorry about the spam, needed a few slots to add stuff during the next few days. If anyone else is interested in an OP RP feel free to post from now. Should have a rough estimate of how the RPG will look like in its first form by tomorrow or so.

I call this patch 1.1

Once we're done with all the necessary stuff, it will launch and people can start working on their characters and stuff. Shouldn't take more than a few days.

Where do we post our character bios.
Edit: Also what do we have to include. Maybe please include empty formt just for reference. Thanks.
Hello, this is still under development, I will include formats, guides, and everything necessary before it officially launches. Expect it to be ready in a few days. I simply posted the development phase to see if it gets any traffic pre-launch, and allow the community to get involved in the process as well.

So yeah, we'll be ready in a few days! Hope you give it a shot.

ALright thanks. I look forward to it. Also just a question. Can I request devil fruit now? I really like Mochi Mochi No Mi (mochi mochi fruit). If not I will request in bio when it comes out. Can't wait.

I'm not doing fruit reservations until it launches. Just stick around and I'm sure you'll get it. When it's ready for launch people can start claiming fruits.

So you wont need to post a finished bio. When this launches, you claim the fruit you want, and then take your time to create your character biography without any stress.
