It's chapters like these that make me think the handling of Luffy becoming King of The Pirates is much better than the way Naruto became Hokage.

Oda knows how to intricately develop a truly thematic and flowing narrative through sensible progression unlike any other author.

I'm still surprised no one has called out the bullshit that is the first half of this chapter. Honestly Luffy's character just got shitted on sooo hard. I thought he was supposed to be a man who respects others.

Are you retarded...... the whole point of that entire first half was showing that Luffy is such a good guy that he wont just go all out on a blind man. That was a BOOST to Luffys character and it was proven when Fujiitora was impressed with Luffys "honest to a fault" personality. Read the chapter properly

Fujitora said he shouldn't feel pity for him yet Luffy still did. The only thing going for until now was that he respects others ideals as long as they weren't evil. Luffy is now one of the worst characters to date.

Realistically there isn't any reason for Luffy to refuse whatsoever. They're not asking to become Strawhats, they're asking to become subordinate crews and I can at least find three reasons as why he should accept:

1) There have been several people who have been complaining about Oda focusing unnecessary on all these characters so much. Now if they become subordinate crews, all of that makes sense. They weren't meant to just spice up this arc, but will have another role to play in the long term.

2) What point was there for Oda to spend half a chapter explaining how they divided themselves into groups for Luffy then to decline the offer?

3) It's something a real pirate should do. In the end the entire Strawhat crew consists of not even 10 members. No matter how powerful they become, quantitatively seen they're really not worth much. Luffy needs some more backbone if they ever end up in large-scale situation.

At best Luffy might decline at the beginning because he hasn't a clue what they're talking about, but when Robin explains the benefits, he will make a 180° turn.

It also all goes with Oda's theme of people helping luffy, like in the pirate war at marine ford. All the white beard pirates were behind him then, it would make sense for all these to join luffy now after Oda just had kaido say about the greatest war ever.
