Its not cutting it short. And its not best for a story to take more pages to explain what is best explained in half that amount. And it didnt add the to story at all to make luffy rescue her. it just dragged the story. And thats my opinion. You can have have a different one and neither of us be wrong, but a lot of others think the same as me.
That's because this isn't about adding to the story, it is about resolution. Was Oda supposed to jump from Luffy talking to her in one panel to her being at Kryos the next? That would be confusing and terrible story telling.

Was Oda to have Kyros be at the palace? If that's the case, then it wouldn't make sense for him to be there.

You don't know that cutting it in half is what's best, Oda knows what's best for his story. He had to resolve the storyline and he did so in a fashion that was paced well. He had a story to tell, and he told it without cutting corners.

Or did he tell it to delay next chapter? It seems like it was stalling to me. It would have been fine if kyros told her in person anyway.

And yes imo it would be best for her story to have been concluded more briefly. I can state my opinion free from what you think oda thinks.

Well they are called the special sniper squad. Have we ever seen a special sniper squad before? If no, if this is their first appearance, then it can very well be a Marine thing. The reason we've never seen it before is because we haven't seen the special sniper squad before.
Maybe, but it's still rather shallow considering this "special sniper squad" got done in in a flash and it remains a fact that someone had to make them unconscious.

No not really, anything from the tontattas to the riku family as a whole has irritated the shit outta me throughout the whole arc.
Well being irritated to such a degree can be considered "emotional". Maybe not the kind you envisioned, but in the end being emotional means showing strong emotions and being highly irritated and showing it falls under that.

You missed the point entirely. The whole part where luffy had to rescue her from the castle was unneeded. The letter was unneeded. If this had been in the last chapter all that needed to happen was for Rebecca to meet kyros somewhere and have him explain in person. Literally, it took 20 pages to resolve this when simply the last 3 would have sufficed. The people thought of Kyros as the hero of the Colosseum anyway, so its not like he needed to hide with the Sh's, he could have been in the castle somewhere private and had this meeting there.

The problem that was introduced was not that of kyros being ashamed of his past but that Rebecca needed "rescuing" at all. It was intentionally dragged out to make it feel emotionally stronger but it was a big flop.

And just to edit this to make myself more clear: I get why kyros and rebecca needed to talk, but involving luffy was not necessarry, the way it was done was dragged out longer than needed and thus could have been resolved last chapter. I am NOT saying kyros story was already rtesolved and I am NOT saying that it wasnt introduced earlier. I AM saying that kyros letter and that he was leaving and thus rebeccas need to be "rescued" WAS introduced last chapter and that part was completely unneeded. Rebecca simply visiting kyros at that house or in the palace secretly was all that was necessary, it didnt need to be 20 pages long at all. could really have been done in 5
I'm not missing the point. You're nitpicking on such small things that appear 10 times each chapter. Why didn't Oda place the home right besides the sea with a ship present? Then the Strawhats wouldn't have had to flee across the island in the first place. Why didn't Oda make the dice drop differently so that the Strawhats wouldn't have been chased? Because Oda is writing a story and a story where everything is going to be highly convenient at every turn would be the most boring thing ever.

Also do you really expect Kyros to be able to say to Rebecca's face that he will leave her? What he did was not an uncommon thing. I've seen this happen in a several series that a character notified another character indirectly simply because he wouldn't be able to say it face to face, while they firmly believe they have to do what they are planning to do, but they know they wouldn't be able to do it if they have to say it face to face. If you read the entire Dressrosa arc again and focus on Rebecca and Kyros, you will see that this chapter is providing closure for the both of them. It's not something Oda created in this chapter out of the blue, he's is ending something that has been defining two of the main characters of this arc. This is really not something you just should brush off in a couple of pages.

I just read the MS version and it's even more clearer there than before. Kyros firmly believes that everything is his fault, that due to him Rebecca has suffered for 10 years. By leaving her he believes Rebecca can have a good life on Dressrosa in the Palace. He believes that if people find out he is her father, it will harm her and that's not even that of a far-fetched idea considering you can read in this chapter that from the moment they hear that Rebecca got kidnapped by Luffy, a hero likewise, it becomes "once a pirate, always a pirate". How would they react when they hear Rebecca is the daughter of a murderer and a vagrant? So to counter that thought, Kyros spread a lie for the sake of his daughter, not to save her but to take care of her, as someone is bound to ask where she comes from. Where the hell does the daughter of a princess who was supposed to have been dead for over 16 years come from? However Rebecca made it clear she does not care about any of that and now Kyros is finally hugging her while when she was born, he used gloves.

This is really not something Oda made up on the spur of the moment, there is quite a lot of thought behind this. In fact you can even state whether one chapter wouldn't be too shallow considering the importance they had for the Dressrosa arc (which isn't the shortest of arcs), let alone reducing it to a few pages. You can't make things like this feel genuine if you don't have some build up. In my opinion one chapter was just about right to end this. As I said before if this had been another character that's more popular, people would have been lyrical about this. People just find this a boring chapter because they don't like Rebecca. The situation you describe would be almost like some kind of boring, formal meeting between two businessmen.

Rebecca isn't my most favored character either, but I think both Kyros and Rebecca deserved this considered the hell they went through.

You act like you know my opinion on Rebecca and you are letting it influence your thoughts on my opinion. It took 20 pages not one chapter. One chapter is like 14-16 pages. And if was all in one chapter it wouldn't be so bad either, but it wasnt and thus broke the flow. If kyros cant talk to her face to face, then have her sneak out of the palace with violas help, why involve luffy at all. In either case it didnt feel genuine to me anyway so i suggested a way to make it better to me lol thats all there is to this, let me have an opinion jeez

The sudden drama with Kyros was indeed a dud but the chapter was fine. I loved the part where everyone thinks Rebeca was kidnapped and then they run away once again like the pirates they are with Fujitora on their heels. It's no like Luffy likes to leave like a hero.
That will boost his bounty even more now.

Pretty boring chapter I give it a 2.5/5, chapter focuses on Rebecca and her father too much rather than the escape itself..... but we were excepting this.

What I found interesting was how the soldier snipers got knocked out if it wasn't Luffy's CoC. Who could have done it?

Next chapter should be good now that Fugitora has arrived.

You act like you know my opinion on Rebecca and you are letting it influence your thoughts on my opinion. It took 20 pages not one chapter. One chapter is like 14-16 pages. And you act like you know how I know your opinion on Rebecca and let it influence my thoughts.

The only thing I in fact explained was simply the overall character development of Kyros and Rebecca to point out that this chapter was not something that just popped up out of the blue, but was in fact a running theme throughout the entire Dressrosa arc that now received closure. I merely added to that replies to comments you made that are not correct or redundant like saying that Oda just made a problem up, which is not true, or that he could have done it in a few pages, which would simply be bad writing.

To finish I also added a global remark about how many people in this thread seem to be displeased about this chapter, but that that is largely because they do not like Rebecca. When Law's character received some serious development, many people were ecstatic about it. So in the end the value of this chapter depends on how much you value Rebecca. I left out in the open to who this all applies, I never said that you specifically fall under that category, that's something you assumed yourself, so you're doing what you just said I was supposed to be doing. That becomes quite obvious by the fact you are nitpicking on what should be considered one chapter or one and a half chapter on a series that consists out of nearly 800 chapters. This is just absurd.

It didn't broke the flow, it picked up a flow that has been flowing throughout the entire arc and now provided closure for it. The situation you describe is a situation that would lack any genuine feelings and would go against the personalities of Luffy, Kyros and Rebecca. The only thoughts I pretend to somewhat know are those of the involved characters:

Kyros: Extremely insecure about Rebecca, blames himself for everything and could never say to her face that he would leave her for good. That became extremely obvious this chapter when they meat each other eventually. So instead he left a not and spread a rumor as he knew the identity of her father could potentially be an issue, which was not an entirely baseless notion.

Rebecca: An innocent, gentle and bit of a timid and emotional girl that got brutally thrown into a fighting arena and who lost the memory of her father for 10 years. She had been living her entire life in small houses and the arena. Then suddenly the memory of he father comes back, her entire life is thrown upside down and she becomes the queen in waiting of a country that till recently was spitting her out while living in a castle. This is to say the least highly confusing for a girl like her that by default does not have an assertive personality.

Luffy: A rather simple person, but as a result has the uncanny ability to see whenever people are seriously troubled and can provide often the most simplistic of solutions.

Luffy sensed that this situation between Kyros and Rebecca was full of doubts. So he simply went asking if Rebecca was ok with this. Now being so pushed by Luffy, she now admitted she wasn't under pressure and then you had the practical issue of crossing the distance before Kyros left. Luffy then brought Kyros and Rebecca together and left the rest to them. He did something extremely similar during the Alabasta arc where Vivi was conflicted about whether she should stay princess or a pirate. Luffy did not physically moved her, but he did push her to confront them for a last time to make sure she would not have any regrets and for that he made her cross an entire desert on the day she was supposed to shown to the people. Vivi chose to be a princess, Rebecca to live with her father. Both of them had to make a choice and where they were doubting, both of them got pushed by Luffy into a confrontation to make sure they would not have any regrets regardless of the situation.

You shouldn't even base the value of this chapter based on your interest. If you rank it based on your enjoyment, then I understand the low ratings since not many care about Rebecca, but in terms of pure writing, looking at it neutrally, this is a damn good chapter. It's a shame people aren't acknowledging that and the development/closure you described simply because it wasn't interesting or entertaining to them personally.

At this point you guys are arguing that I am not allowed to dislike thie way this was done, and put simply, I am allowed to. You can't argue against what I like and dislike. So back to my original point which is continually missed, I am not against closure for that storyline or Rebecca. If he wanted to bring closure to her story, he should not have done it when we are intensely interested in fujitoras actions. Perhaps doing it before fuji revealed he was gonna chase luffy wouldn't have made it seem like wallpaper.

I thought it was the dwarves that took out those marines...

Anyway Smoker is back in action hell yeah.

While it wasn't the most interesting chapter it was a necessary one for us to move on with the plot to be honest if people have been keeping up with this series from the beginning they shouldn't really be mad this is typical Oda to be fair. If it bothers you that much stop reading in weekly installments. Simple.

Hopefully Smoker makes his return relatively soon. There's speculation that he may get a new weapon from Dr.Vegapunk.

Chapter 798 - Fuji arrives at the crew's location and clashes with Zoro. He tells the others to run, he'll hold the admiral off. He doesn't have to beat Fuji, just stall him. Jump to Law who's talking with Sengoku about Corazon. Law wants to know a bit about Corazon's life before being a pirate. As he leaves, Sengoku says he's glad Corazon was able to do some good in the world. Chapter ends when Law and Luffy arrive at the scene of Zoro and Fuji's battle.

Chapter 799
- The trio start fighting Fuji and have the admiral at a disadvantage. They're forced to retreat when the rest of the marine forces arrive, distracting them. Suddenly, the rest of the pirates show up and tell the three to run to the ship. As the Strawhats, Law, and the two samurai leave Dressrosa, the pirates hold the marines while pledging their services to Luffy, should he ever need them. Think a scene similar to when they said farewell to Vivi, but in reverse.

Chapter 800 - Pekoms and Tamago arrive at Big Mom's cake island. Her tea party's just about to start, and she refrains from punishing them for losing Ceasar. They retort by saying they left Capone Bege behind to take care of it. As the tea party starts, they bring her attention to the offerings from Fishman Island. Jump to Kaido, who arrives to his snow island. He meets up with Drake, who tells him that Caribou destroyed his weapon factory. As Kaido states to call Joker to let him know their weapon deal will be delayed, he learns of the warlord's defeat. Double page spread of Kaido yelling and an explosion going off at Big Mom's island (due to the bomb placed inside the offerings). Chapter ends with both emperor's telling their crews to mobalize; they're going to destroy the Strawhats.
