I've gotta say Naruto because he can really protect the village and people love him. Also, I can see it right now; Naruto not being able to stay in the office doing Kage work and finding missions that he wants to do himself. Kakashi would always fill in for him when Naruto is out.

That wouldn't make him a respectable Kage, Kakashi would just be doing the work for him.

kakashi- good candidate but is to connected to all the bad shit happening

hiashi- good candidate but view upon the world "branch/ destiny" is not gonna work
shikaaru- not strong enough, but kages arent suppose to fight

It will be Kakashi. I think naruto may just want to be a regular teenager for awhile. He's looking into the future for that position, but now I think he just wants to be a regular guy.

Lately I have been thinking on this subject, and the more I think the more I see Shikamaru in the spot.

Kakashi is the first to be offered, but he will probably reject it. If I'm not mistaken, he was only accepting it in the summit, because it was a crisis time (although after a war is not really not critical xD).
Naruto, being probably the most powerful Konoha shinobi ATM, would be the first choice, but he's dumb as a rock, and even being offered I see him rejecting it in favor of someone else.
With the death of Shikaku, which I thought was the best option, Shikamaru may be the best option, but plot is plot, and we're probably gonna see some Yamato comeback kicking serious juubi ass, and earning him the spot(which is not bad IMO). Hell, the more I think of it, the more it sounds really plausible to happen.
