Naruto VS Dragonball Z

Reluctantly, I'll say that Naruto has the better story but I still love the story of Dragonball/DBZ. I'll always like DBZ more, I can't help it!

Naruto has a better overall story, but DBZ is legendary. Anime wasn't even big in America till DBZ came around. DBZ made anime popular and the fact that they are still making a content for a Anime that old, speaks for itself. I absolutely love Naruto, but DBZ gets the nod.

Jepp, Naruto stole alot from DBZ. DBZ had better fights and a better story overall. And most of all you can watch DBZ over and over and over again, and it still has its charm. Naruto doesn't have this.

Haha yes exactly. I mean, I like to re-watch Naruto too, but re-watching the Buu Saga or the Frieza saga is always a blast from the past.

While I respect that opinion,I disagree with it.

I prefer the fights in naruto.

Also a couple of those "original materials" existed in manga and anime before dbz and pokemon. Every great story was influenced by another. Originality is an abstract concept.

Original material can make something better but something being original doesnt make it better. For example, I could make a brand new poop joke that nobody has thought of but nobody finds it funny.

Ideas that are successful are recycled in every single art form. That's the way things work. People take old ideas, incorporate them in to their own work and use them to improve on what's come before. For example, the vast majority of shooters on games consoles (apologies if you're not a gamer) use ideas and mechanics introduced by Halo: CE, but I doubt that more than a handful of people would say that Halo is the best shooter of all time.

Fair point, but DBZ's influence is much more obvious than other anime/manga out there, especially in terms of the main stream and crossing to western audiences. I don't exactly see Naruto taking pages out of Astro Boy or Street Racer.

However, I do agree that Naruto's fights are really cool too. Unlike DBZ, a lot of the fights we see require careful planning and tactics; more than just power. In cases where intelligence is used in fights, I would have to agree that Naruto has better fights like that. But Naruto has its fair share of power fights as well. Which is why overall, I'd give the fights to DBZ. Naruto is a close second though, which is why I watch

When talking about nostalgic matters such as this, originality weighs very heavily on my mind.

As far as story goes, we're still getting new material for DBZ.

Goku's mother was finally revealed in a new manga chapter just yesterday.

And a lot of people seem to discount the frieza saga + Bardock storyline when they say that Naruto has a better-written story.

If we're still getting story details about an anime 20 years later, sorry but that show has better story imo.

Black Sabbath, the godfathers of Metal music, are respected among every metal act today because they originated the music's sound. To me, DBZ is Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath are literally worshipped and can sell multiplatinum records even when they're 30 years past their prime and half the band is dead and their guitarist is missing a finger.

I absolutely agree. Halo, DBZ and Black Sabbath will always be remembered for the influence that they have had on other examples from their respective industries. I can't say much about metal, because honestly, Black Sabbath are the only group that I've really heard, but I believe that pioneering works/groups in every form of entertainment act as springboards, enabling entertainment to progress and improve. Legends should always be respected, but I don't think that they should be held above subsequent stories or bands purely because of their status.
