As exoected Gai looked very slow/underpowered thanks to the bad animation.
At least next week looks like it might get the speed right.

That's precisely the problem. When was the last time a major Naruto fight went down exactly like the manga? All the great Shippuden fights had exquisite filler choreography and story boarding for motion fighting. It went down exactly how it was in the manga.
Because the fight was basic and direct. It was just guy using basic punches. Nothing more to it. What on earth would the anime team possibly do to add to that? It was boring looking in the manga as well. Not sure why people overhype this fight. That's precisely the problem. When was the last time a major Naruto fight went down exactly like the manga? Gai Vs Madara had potential to go all out with this principle due to Gai literally being a Taijutsu specialist and Toei done f##ked it up.
Whenn part 1 characters are moving faster than 8 gated Gai, something went wrong lolIt was a good episode, not sure what people were expecting. It went down exactly how it was in the manga. The animation was reasonable, I didn't have a problem with it.
You just described every. Single. Naruto. Fight. Ever!Because the fight was basic and direct. It was just guy using basic punches. Nothing more to it. What on earth would the anime team possibly do to add to that? It was boring looking in the manga as well. Not sure why people overhype this fight.
It's technically impossible for animation to "look awful".Yeah I was wrong.
The fight was really dissapointing. The animation at times in the fight looked awful and the talk with the Sage of Six Paths had much better animation than the fight and it was mostly just Kakashi and Co talking. There were no extended scenes either. After seven months of filler they can't produce a good quality episode.
In short Studio Perriot has screwed us over once again.
I still give the episode a 3/5 though.
Er no. There are plenty better drawn and more complex fights than this. With actual different jutsu, strategy and both opponents actually fighting back. You just described every. Single. Naruto. Fight. Ever!
The manga was never intricate in hand-to-hand combat anyway, that's where the geniuses that worked on the anime came into play.
If you're trying to say it's impossible for the movement itself to "look" awful, as opposed to the drawings, that's still wrong. Choreography and fluidity/frames per second can both be seen, and are just as (or more) important than artwork. It's technically impossible for animation to "look awful".
