As exoected Gai looked very slow/underpowered thanks to the bad animation.

Naruto episode 50 (lee vs gaara) is way more epic than this episode.
I can't feel the speed of sekisou (manga more epic), also when guy punched isoku to gosoku, they just show us in one angel.. it could be more better in different angel..
When guy punched madara at the last time, for me it was meh because it's lack of impact and speed, it just like a normal punch.
Anyway 2-3/5 for this episode, i like the hagoromo part..

It was a good episode, not sure what people were expecting. It went down exactly how it was in the manga. The animation was reasonable, I didn't have a problem with it.

That's precisely the problem. When was the last time a major Naruto fight went down exactly like the manga? All the great Shippuden fights had exquisite filler choreography and story boarding for motion fighting.
Gai Vs Madara had potential to go all out with this principle due to Gai literally being a Taijutsu specialist and Toei done f##ked it up.

All it is is Gai pounding Madara with the same attack reapeatedly, and Madara just there taking it and not fighting back. There is nothing to add to this fight except for the off oanel bits that we didn't see while we were listening to hagoromo and narutos conversation. It's those parts where filler should be added, but not this part.
Because the fight was basic and direct. It was just guy using basic punches. Nothing more to it. What on earth would the anime team possibly do to add to that? It was boring looking in the manga as well. Not sure why people overhype this fight.

This episode was disappointing as expected, I feel Gai was nerfed due to the lack of animation, the night elephant speed was slow like they could've done the timing properly which is the most important principle in animation and not just that but also I don't feel the impact, this whole fight in a nutshell was underwhelming.

The manga was never intricate in hand-to-hand combat anyway, that's where the geniuses that worked on the anime came into play.
It's technically impossible for animation to "look awful".
The animation was really good for 98% of the episode, though in high-paced scenes the artwork became somewhat erratic quality-wise. People who don't know what they're talking about; shouldn't comment per se.
OT: Good animation and episode, only let down by askew pacing and dips in artwork standards.

Er no. There are plenty better drawn and more complex fights than this. With actual different jutsu, strategy and both opponents actually fighting back.
8 gates vs Madara is one of the most overrated battles ever. Is just one pummelling the other with mere punches while the other takes it.
Gai literally repeated the same punch 5 times in a row. Yet people think this deserves 5 star animation and extra filler content :lol what more can you do with 5 punches?

If you're trying to say it's impossible for the movement itself to "look" awful, as opposed to the drawings, that's still wrong. Choreography and fluidity/frames per second can both be seen, and are just as (or more) important than artwork.
Even if you remove fully drawn characters and replace them with stickmen, a lot of animators lack what it would take to even do impressive stickman movements.

Absolutely loved to finally see Might guy and all eight gates activated!
Though Might guy may not have been one of my favorite characters, I respect him highly.
Also, his eyebrows look amazing. Lol.

Wonderful Episode.
I loved the battle between guy and madara. The six path sage came in just in time to break the tension with some humor, which was pretty much missing in the last episodes.
Naruto seems younger in the conversation with the sage. Do you think it's on purpose or just was made apart from everything so it wasn't percise?
