Disclaimer: Bare with my banter. My thousand thoughts are unfleshed and unfinished, maybe you two can help me reach the peak of perfection!
Thinking of the tools has to begin my thinking of their being, why do they exist? I would assume it safe to say the So6P created these tools, or used them in his hay day, rather than them being created on his death day. This leads me to these thoughts for my way of thinking...
1. I've ruled The Gedo Maze Statue out as the fifth tool and let me inform you why...
a. Knowing what we know of The Gedo Maze Statue, summoning it would have been too much of a hindering hassle for So6P, he would have been Nagato with a chakra rod castle sticking out of his back!
b. If the GMS was the fifth tool it would imply that the purpose for the tools is to collect and seal the tail-beast in order to resurrect the tail-beast times ten! Surely the So6P wouldn't want this, and like I stated before this claim I believe the weapons were utilized before the Juubi was captured by the ninjutsu master in his prime. So6P couldn't have for seen the tools serving the purpose for capturing nine different tailed beast derived from the Juudi. In conclusion, me claiming the fifth tool to be the GMS is just way too confusing!!! Sorry for the quick response w/o really thinking of my silly thoughts. Just explaining why it's confusing is confusing! Lets move on for the sake of my sanity...
2. So6P was a peaceful fellow, yes. He spoke the words of peace and ninjutsu during a era of danger and terror. To speak and spread the word you need a silent audience. These tools seem to discourage speaking, and if you refuse to be silent then your captured soul will keep you quiet. The banana fan would be used to encourage speak and a stall if the individual chose to fight quiet, which would eventually lead to his taboo word being spoken. Of course remember the So6P spoke peace, so the final tool must be used to release a soul from the gourd (perhaps the staff we see in the shillouette, as mentioned before). This is a silly theory lol, but i thought i'd at least share and see if this leads the spinning of a better, more concrete theory! Plus the tools have to have a greater meaning than the rubbish theory i'm using for the time being.
3. To sync with the gedo maze, i believe the rinnegan is required, remember madara still as the right one, maybe for another? The right eye could be for one of Sasuke's eye sockets, and Madara might trick him into taking it for the syncing to GMS, I mean it is a powerful eye with unique abilities and I would take it, if madara offered it to me lol. Sasuke would indeed become crippled with the syncing, just like nagato when he wasn't thinking. Also, he would have to sacrifice one EMS and remember each EMS always for the special abilities Sasuke now uses. I don't think this will happen, like xXxsasuke said. it would wreck Sasuke, but the Juubi will be revived somehow, lets wait and say.
4. Just a quick thought to consider and their may be a hidden theory. Madara and Hashirama had a great rivalry and were great nins. obviously their stories were fleshed out more and are still being given more substance now. But remember they both had two younger brothers, maybe kishi will weave an even greater deeper story involving these two other significant figures and their brothers or potential relationships they had with their brother's rivals...
