technically they are said to be his weapons, but noone really knows the sage of six paths nor is it proven that he actually exists. it could be a god theory, lots of people believe that there really is one but theres no way to prove it. so until we see this sage of six paths or until we see anyone beyond madara's age thats still alive, i highly doubt anyone would have known of him besides these random stories about his greatness.
if i remember correctly the second hokage also had a legendary weapon. if you guys remember in the naruto episodes(not shippuden) naruto and sasuke fought some guy who was using a blade that was encrusted with lightning or thunder. sasuke cracked the sword with chidori, and naruto finished destroying the blade with his resangan. also idk if this counts but wouldnt the fourth hokages weapon count as legendary too? he was the only one who was able to use those kunai and use the teleportation jutsu he personally set on those kunai, idk i also would like to state that he ended up placing that kunai up on a rope and kept it hanging in his house. my thoughts are he was legendary and so was those kunai, regardless if people disagree i will continue to think this.

, it seems very lame so i think im on the right track lol those two criminals are a jokexdthe gedo maze art tech isnt one of those legendary tools, if you remember only pain could use it, but wait in the last anime video we see madara say he wants to see how sasuke plays out before giving him the tech to use for madara.(most likely sasuke will not be trustable enough for madara to give it to, not to mention it'd ruin sasuke as a character.... he would look like an ethiopian after uses that tech, look at how it changed nagato from slim to Mega skinny.)

the sword you're referring to is from one of the 7 legendary swordsman of the mist it was first with Raiga, i believe that sword also came with the edo tensei summon check it out
Gedo Statue is the summoning of pain, if you see in of the flashbacks from Nagato you'll see he is connected with it with his iron rods. he later disconnects with it and the rods still keep sticking out of his body when he's talking too Naruto you can see them clearly.
i dont think the rods coming out of Nagato came from the Gedo Statue. I believe it came from when he was fighting the Hanzo and he summoned a beast that was connected to his back, right after Yahiko died. Hanzo ended up breaking the rods which defeated the beast.
