Nagato outsmarted/overpowered by Itachi

It's a toss up in my opinion.

They both have counters to each other. Itachi has more intelligence than Nagato but Nagato isn't a complete idiot either. Nagato has a more overwhelming power but Itachi himself has a set of abilities that make him formidable in a 1v1.

In my opinion, Nagato is slightly stronger than Itachi. Itachi is capable of defeating Nagato though.

Since the Rinnegan is the final evolution of the sharingan which belongs to the uchiha clan Nagato's strengh with it is not good enough... Tobi already said that MS Sasuke was already close to the same power as Nagato that should tell you that Nagato could not defeat Itachi...

He never said such thing. He said he believed Sasuke could become stronger than Nagato. Itachi and Nagato are still stronger than Sasuke.

Nagato would hit him with a chou shinra tensei which reduced Buildings made out of bricks knocking him back miles probably killing him

Celestial Tera Blast would crush him to dust

Divine Attractor+Preta would finish his Susanoo off and Asura Path would rip of his limbs

The Summons would at the very least distract Itachi Ceberus and Rhino would be very difficult to fight while Nagato is coming at you

Nagato can fly as well so he can just float above Itachi spamming powerful attacks from above with preta path enabled and Itachi automatically loses he can only throw Kunai while hes getting ripped apart by Tidal waves

He can cast Izanagi twice. Nagato can do a decent sized (enough for a regular human) CT more than twice I'm fairly sure.

Nagato might have a very wide range of jutsu but Itachi can easily discern his opponent's jutsu and always finds a way to counter them. Intelligence is also a key factor in battle, not just power. Not to mention, Itachi himself is also powerful.

Nope. Itachi can't stop Chibaku tensei by himself and shinra tensei would be a big problem for him.

That's a bold statement for someone with no proof. Itachi pinpointed it's weakness in a matter of seconds.

Its enough to use izanagi once to counter CT , CT takes its toll on Nagato its like shinra tensei, there is an interval before he can use it again and during that time Itachi casts genjutsu...IMO but you said that Nagato goes with CT from the start but then Itachi can start with genjutsu too and its faster than CT...

Kill off entire clan nearly single handedly, master the Mangeckyou sharingan at age 13, spy on akatsuki from the inside for nearly 10 years without being discovered, take down nagato (i'll give you that he was being controlled) effortlessly, which implies to me that if he was controling himself, itachi would have a run for his money, but would still come out on top.

The Rinnegan might be very powerful but it still depends on how the use utilizes it. Itachi hasn't actually shown his full potential yet - he was only shown in his dying mode and edo mode. Nagato only attacked Konoha when Itachi died. That could imply that he wouldn't want to go up against Itachi.
