The quote of "Unrivaled strength" etc is obviously a hyperbole... obviously Minato isn't really unrivaled in strength.
He uses it all the time to hype up the chapter. For example:
Is Neju literally an un-equalled Shinobi?

Is there literally no "soul" in Naruto who doesn't know of Jiraiya?

Is Kisame literally more devoted to being a ninja than anyone else?

Minato does get overrated alot. It used to be ridiculous a while ago but to be honest, from looking at some recent thread I think people are starting to underrate him a bit aswell now. I can see it myself. But the overrated outweighs the underrated imho.
But you will find that with every popular character such as Itachi, Jiraiya, Kakashi, Hashirama etc.
Hum i haven't seen the pic about Neji before and it's really weird like you say. Anyway i must admit sometimes he gets overrated(i do it sometimes too), but like you've said he begin to get really underrated in NB at the moment. I see some comparison what makes me laugh currently as if we're not reading the same manga
He is overrated by some but he does get some unnecessary hate too. Minato is not all that powerful from what we have seen, he is skilled and would beat high level opponents with his speed and intelligence. We have to see more of him before we can start ranking, but there is no doubt that he is a very high level shinobi, people just talk rubbish about him sometimes.
He can be overrated by some people but overall I do think that people underrate him on this forum. The databook states that the one who can summon the chief toad (in this case Gamabunta) can summon/has the potential to summon any toad. Seeing as how Minato can summon toads especially made for when he seals.. I'd say that he knows quite a diversity off that alone. He sealed half the Kyuubi inside an object (in this case his son) WITHOUT using Reaper Death Seal. The fact that he has sensory abilities shows that he could easily know much more than just his FTG/Rasengan hype. Pretty awesome stuff if you ask me

The guy was a talented ninja prodigy that only came around once in a generation, one of the most gifted shinobi who ever lived; and one of the strongest shinobi that ever existed. His intelligence is probably top 3-5 in the series, fastest shinobi ever (not sure if Naruto has surpassed him yet). He absolutely pwnd Tobi in less than 2 minutes, arguably with ease. So opponents stronger than Tobi would be given a good fight by Minato.
It's easy to overestimate him because of how he has been described, especially with an OP technique like FTG. But I think alot of people just like to hate on him because of the fans, considering he is one of the most likable characters you will see in the series, I find it strange that a good character like him can get so much hate. Because of this hate people like to underestimate him too, before everyone I knew, knew for a fact as the 4th he was > 3rd - now for some reason this is in doubt. People say he will be stomped by Itachi and Nagato when that isn't true at all, he could win or lose to either of the two.
I still believe he is one of the strongest in the series, top 10 for sure (even top 8 at the very least in my book). Plus people forget that we've only seen about 3 jutsu from Minato, I know for a fact that's not all he has to offer, yet people compare him to OP characters with tons of jutsu. Not all of Minato's true potential/all his abilities have been seen so I find it absurd when people unfairly say he can't do certain things or won't beat x or y characters, yet a bit of hype for one character ie Hashi and then everyone sways to that side.
I know for a fact he is one of the strongest and can be overrated in the most stupidest ways at times but also he is underrated in the most unfair ways too. I just hope people stop hating him so much just because of others actions.

he's overated by his fans who seems to think that he has a magical ftg seal generator in his pocket that can magically grant him unlimited kunai's. What they don't realize is that this isn't freakin fairly odd parents.
One could always argue that Minato & Itachi were overrated by their fans but most often underrated by their haters. In my honest opinion, I think their status were in between the level of these shinobis.
Hashirama > Madara
Naruto > Sasuke
It was clearly stated so many times before in the manga, should Minato live longer he could have been the strongest as he has the potential of attaining so. Same goes to Itachi as well, should he managed to take over Sasuke’s eyes, he would have surpassed Madara & gained the title of ultimate ninja in the NU. Unfortunately, they died early & failed to reach their prime or fell short of surpassing the stronger ones before them.
As far as Naruto & Sasuke goes, they might have exceeded Minato & Itachi in terms of raw power & capacities. However, battle strategies & analytical ability wise, I’m not so sure if they can go beyond what Minato & Itachi have pulled off. This is one of the reasons why I think Minato or Itachi stands better chances against Naruto or Sasuke should they clash in a battle.
My point here is, Minato & Itachi, though failed to reach their prime, still have the best chance to defeat any top tier shinobis they could ever encountered. They may not be as powerful as compared to others, but they will always be regarded as one of the strongest in the NU. Their contributions as ninja’s were both notable & so unforgettable!

This part explain exactly what i think. People in NB always think that the strongest is always the one who is capable to destroy mountains forgetting that even Madara himself, if he gets a kunai in a vital point, he is dead. It's why shinobis like Minato or Itachi are really dangerous in a fight especially when you know how dangerous their jutsus are.
Minato is the type of opponent who could kill you without you even know what's happening. That's why when i think that someone like Minato has a great chance to defeat Edo Madara even if he doesn't have his power especially when you know that Madara has no knowledge about Minato, so he is not suppose to know how his jutsu work. Looking at a kunai for example, he won't think about escaping from the radius of it
People only look the name but forget about abilities. FTG is really a cheated jutsu and many people forget that. Just one touch and it could be over for you, and when you add the fact Minato is the fastest ninja in NU, and one of the smartest ninja also, creating such occasions is not that impossible
It's common sense he could definitively beat ems sasuke even with the small feats he has shown. About Madara it's debatable, but obviously people like you underrate him

okay, all bad names aside, i don't hate minato... But he's really overrated by his fans. Those feats he showed isn't enough to give sasuke problems, as for madara well i'd love to see him go toe to toe with a perfect susanoo...
