I didn't say it was I said according to Shanks it is so him eating a DF when he feels that way is counter intuitive to his character. And as for haki idk but unlikely and nothing to imply it would.

I mean what if oda didnt thimk that far into it at first i mean luffy didn't just fall to the bottom at first... He was like trying to swim / float

Idk, I doubt he wouldn't have thought about it it was the first chapter. He knew he'd be making Luffy the PK and he knew he was giving him a DF and he still had Shanks scold him. Shanks MO seems to be no DF usage. Plus it would make a good foil of a DF-less Yonko crew compared to Kaido's all DF(albeit artificial crew.

Plus Shanks was chilling in the water holding another person, he just wouldn't have been able to do that with a DF given everything we know and have been told thus far. It'd be neat to see the top tier DF users be able to use haki to stay afloat and maybe we see some battles on the ocean top but I don't think that'll become thing.

I didn't, even if he managed to struggle to keep himself afloat Shanks couldn't do that with one arm which is holding another person. Why don't you go reread that chapter and let me know where you see Shanks struggling to stay afloat the way you described Luffy.

Then what are you saying because now you're talking in circles. Shanks didn't have a DF at chapter 1 as evidenced by his ability to be in the water holding Luffy with his only arm and staying afloat. Nothing indicates he used haki to stay afloat.

Well we dont know that . he wasnt able to defend himself or swim from what we saw. Just use kings haki so I basically can say he had a df just as much as you say he didnt. Him holding luffy dont mean jack squat when people like aokiji and oven have used their df while touching ocean water
