I brought this up in another topic and it was pushed aside for the excuse that he probably just grew it back...

This is Kishimoto we're talking about.. he tends to do everything for a reason... Tobi/madara's appearance goes back and forth for no reason? I don't think so!

What made things even more suspicious was when he said in the chapter before about madara being long dead "Oh I wouldn't say that!" seems like he is talking about someone else...

I believe more so that there are TWO ppl involved in this... One is madara... the other... I have no idea! Maybe it's his brother... But there is something odd about all of it!

he wears a mask, so that we, the readers, are made suspicios and wonder why he is wearing it. the manga is all about mysteries and that is what makes it so interesting. tobi may be madara (i think so) or he may not. but the hole story would be less interesting for us without him wearing it. and that is enough reason for kishi to make it this way

btw, kakashi is wearing a mask too. what does he have to hide?

Its a manga so its really weird that when Madara met Itachi he looked like the Madara I am used to seeing with the same hairstyle. But shorty after that he is in a Anbu style mask with short hair. Its not a detail I would completely overlook. I also don't think Itachi would mistake Madara either.. I also believe Kishi likes to keep secrets so people are wondering about the identity. But I am guessing its still Madara and he really likes his new hair cut...

No,,, Dude everything in naruto has a purpose, for example we would of thought the reason the 4th seal the kyuubi in naruto is so that kanoha would retain its supremacy. But we soon found out his real reason in manga 503. Also obito died and gave kakashi his sharigan, as a result he was able to perfect the chidori/rikiri.

Just look at the obvious things we all know what madar looks like so doubt he would be waering a mask to hide his aged face.
The reason could be he is eiher someone else or in some else's body.
I highly doubt he just like wearing his mask.

ur on the right track but it wouldn't be a new hair cut because he had the short hair when the fox attacked, then he met itachi.

Hey i'm not saying i'm 100% sure that madara's is zetsu but there is a possibility.

and about the hair and mask thing i don't see kakashi changing his mask cuting his hair infact madara is the only one in the series to change appearances so many times

BATTLE WITH THE FIRST - Madara normal without mask

BATTLE WITH THE FOURTH - Tobi with mask and short hair no covered skin and easily removable hands without bleeding (ZETSUISH).

MEETING WITH ITACHI - MadaraISH with long hair, same mask normal none battle clothing not completely covering skin.

CURRENTLY - Tobi with different mask short hair, covered body from head to toe, arms come of easy with out blood (ZETSUISH).

And not to mention he has never been seen using the Mangekou Sharingan hmmmmmmmm.........

I not saying this dude isn't madara for sure but there is some strong oddities about his persona and who he claims to be.

You don't understand at all. This current flashback happened 16 years ago. The battle against Fu and Torune happened 16 years after that event. There is a big difference in time lapse. Madara got his hand cut off and his shoulder/back destroyed by the Rasengan so he started to bleed. But then 16 years later, Madara was infected by microscopic insects and was forced to rip his arm off in order to stop the infection from spreading.

I am still stuck. When he met Itachi I was under the impression that was BEFORE the kyuubi attack and uchiha incident. I thought that was when they first met and started training together.

Anyways I am starting to not care about who it is. After his appearances in the Manga he is beast enough to hold his own no matter who he is.

The reason for his change in haircut and his mask is simple. It's an identity cloak. He's hiding his identity. If he walked around publicly with his long characteristic hair and outfit he'd be recognized.
Also, his mask hides his face and most importantly his left eye (which seemingly has the rinnegan by now). We also know that he took the body of the former mizukage as seen in manga

I have posted some thing like this for all those who thinks that madara could be using obito's body. Because due to the fact that madara/tobi had his sharingan when he attacked sixteen years ago. But there is still a possibility because obito died way before madara/tobi attacked.
