First of, I just want to say that Im not agreeing to anybody, but I would want to say that we all are speculating and none can be right or wrong, since these to did not fight I think that its best to say that anything can be assumed.
Second, This is a very good thread and allows for a lot of opinions
I honestly think that Itachi might give Madara a run for his money.
The reason I made this statement is not due to a specific do jitsu on any one of these two's behalf.
I think it all came down to mind vs mind. I have a lot of respect for Itachi, as he is a mere fraction of Madara's age, with age comes experience and thats something you cant learn, so Madara have the upper hand on that one. The reason I say Itachi would give him a good battle is due to the ability that Itachi had to annalise a situation and come up with a plan that is more than 4 steps in the future. I compare this to a chess game. I can see Madara as this old fart, versus a kid of 13 (Itachi), and the kid giving him a hard time and there is nothing he can do about it, and it frustrates him. Itachi even had the ability to prepare certain methods to cause Madara a headache after his death, and Im not just talking about the Ameterasu that Sasuke used on him. But providing Sasuke with his jitsu's, and giving Sasuke the ability to stand up against Madara, one day.
This is mere my prediction on the following chapters of naruto :
I think Sasuke is playing the fool on purpose due to the abilities that Itachi gave him. He is going to go to Konoha to fight Naruto, I think he really wants to fight Naruto, but the only way they will be able to do that is if they face each other as enemies. This is only to confirm if Sasuke is better than Naruto. But I think in the end they will need to work together in order to get rid of Madara.
I have writed all this, and you might think what the hell does this even have to do with the thread. But I think that Itachi had the ability to see even that far in the future, to prepare Sasuke to beat Madara, and he even gave Naruto "something" as a backup plan incase there is a failure! This tells me that this person is an increadable genius! At his age!
One last thing that you need to remember is that a person that is smarter than his opponent in war knows when to give up and make alternative arrangements in order to defeat his enemy through another means and that is exactly what Itachi did. He knew that due to his sickness and disability's (Weakening eyes) at that time he will not provide Madara with a competitive battle, but he made arrangements prior to his death to destroy Madara at the end of the day, even though it costed him is live, he still will defeat his enemy, and that is what he wanted to accomplish.
For all practicle reasons and not to be biased I will grant Itachi, and Madara a tie, even though Itachi is already dead, through his death he caused Madara's.
