Actually from the looks of it, Kishi never really followed up with what he said back in 2004. He still gave her more the screen time than other female characters. He still gave her parallels with special characters of this series. I mean sure she is not a Senju or a Uzamaki, but she was still paralleled with them to make her seem more relevant. I just think she deserved better if she was gonna be seen as this important. Unfortunately it never happen.

That is the whole thing. Make her a side character or a main character. You make her a main character according to Panel time yet keep her story only to the level of side character. This in between status is worse than either of the states. I am 100% sure if she had been not been portrayed with parallels like those of MCs, and had a lesser panel time, people would appreciate her more

Considering you watch Fairy Tail and having seen some pics of Erza in battle there is no way Kishi will ever satisfy you in female MC if you compare em with Bleach or FT xD

I did not even do that comparison. But if you wanna play that game than I like Hinata out of this series who hardly had any decent battle feats to back up her character.

Dude she is not a side character she is a main character. lol There is no in between status. Kishi never made her a side character. The manga is my proof.

Sure but that's personal preference. There is hardly anything very unique about her either personality or battle wise which everyone can agree on which may not be the case in other series

Lee had a backstory of him being a normal ninja with no talent. Who worked hard under Gai to become who he is. Tenten is hardly relevant to be mentioned in the same sentence as these two characters. She was a highly neglected side character who hardly got enough screen time. Minato had a backstory with Kushina also with his Team Minato. Knowing his parents was irrelevant since he was already connected to Naruto the main character. Also he had enough backround info to be seen as some sort of legend. Tsunade had a backstory with Dan and her brother. Her backstory showed us how much those two ment to her and what lead her to be a drunk gambler for I believe 20 years? Again no need for her backstory with her parents since her story with Dan and her brother was enough for us to give a shit about her.

Now coming back to Sakura. By looking at those above characters she does not have a compelling background that makes her stand out. Her story with her parents would have done a lot of good for her character, because it would make us see her as some normal girl who has issues. It would also give us a better idea of why she wants to turn from useless to useful. If you watch the RTN movie for example where she had terrible communication with her parents and how she was bugged by them for running her life and stuff. Later to finally realize what would she be without them? I think that sort of story would be a more fitting addition to her character. Like someone on this thread has said before, her background story does not need to be dark. It could be something normal like this.

And she had a back story of bullied girl who was not sauve enough to cover her weaknesses in a pretty/charming way. Normal is boring. Lee got attention from Gai. He proved a better teacher. ^^Minato and Kushina had only as long story as relevant to plot. What part of relevancy for story of Naruto so hard to understand?

So you agree she is not MC worthy but only worthy as a side character. That is the whole point. According to the panel time given to her in part I and part 2 combined she should be near MC . but as you rightly point out she 'mino player'. Would have been better if she had proportionate panel time of a 'mino player'

She got less time than she deserved as a team mate. We are calling her a minor player because she lacks that time. ^^

It's not just my personal opinion. Majority of the people agree to this. Hinata may not have battle feats to back her character much but what she does have that Sakura doesn't is a backstory. Also she is looked upon as a feminine female who can be seen as a great example for many females. If you looked at her character outside of "Naruto-Kun" you would see that.

Also I like Lucy more than Erza. Just saying.

Her being bullied story was not enough. What I explained there is a better way of making her character seem more relateable. If normal is boring than wasn't her character ment to be of a normal girl? If she has no family life than how is she even supposed to be seen as a normal girl?

So just because the story is of Naruto it does not mean Sakura can't have her own story involved in it? If we use your logic than majority of the characters who got a backstory should have never gotten one in the first place.

That depends on how you look at things. If Kishi had continued doing what he was doing with her character, then more panel time, more harm

All he really needed was to have Sasuke save her when she was being bullied as a child.

Her devotion to Sasuke painted her in a bad light for most.

Kishi did develop her...She went from a normal girl with normal problems...Such not wanting to train or eat right, due to watching her figure/unable to express her true feelings/and fearing bugs. To accomplished Kunoichi who summons slugs/Speaks her mind without inner Sakura/and kills giant centipedes. (simplifying it, but the unbiased can see the development she's gone through)

She wanted to stop being left behind by Sasuke and Naruto...She was right there with them when Kaguya was defeated. Goal accomplished.

None of the ones you mentioned, in my opinion, was better written than Sakura, specially Hinata, the girl who returned to be the shy-stalker girl in the Last. Talking about taking steps back...
First of all, Hinata is not a stalker. Please learn the definition of the word stalker.
And second, I don't see you even proving to me how Sakura is better written than Chiyo or Tsunade.

Tsunade - a young lady who started out with a dream of protecting the ones she cared about. Her mission was to advance the medical department and invite a new change to teams to improve their performance so that no one would die, or so that their would be a higher chance of the team surviving without any casualties, while wanting to be Hokage so that she could change this into an actual idea. We come to soon found out that she was too late in saving her loved ones. Her loved ones died in the war which brought about a symbolic fear in blood. She then lost interest in the Hokage theme and started to look down upon them. She then met a young boy who also shared the same dream as her younger brother which brought about a change or flinch of hope to her future. Naruto proved her wrong and she then decided to become Hokage and protect her home. Note that this was all in part 1. I haven't gotten to part two yet.

Chiyo - an old women who had a very big impact on Gaara's life. She was responsible for sealing the Shukaku in him which caused his life to be that of a Jinchuriki, but she soon gave her life for the same person that she ended up destroying. Sasori, who was a very kind and gentle young boy, had become obsessed in puppetry and started to use them for dark purposes after his parents died on a mission. Chiyo was responsible for teaching him that jutsu, but he soon met with him afterwards to settle things with him.

Chiyo and Tsunade both had something to tell about their past and that ended up being a plus for both of their characters. I don't know if you have noticed this, but when a character of a story has some life to how they ended up the way they did, it makes them much more interesting than someone who is just their to fill some love drama between two main characters which no one gives a damn about.

Chiyo's death was way more developed than anything that Sakura has done and that is fact. She gave her life for the sand Kazekage. What has Sakura done that comes to that kind of strength? Pouting in a war because Sasuke kun doesn't see me? Yeah, that's pathetic.

This might be just your opinion but you are not giving me any reason to believe why Sakura is better written than these two. Tsunade and Chiyo. If you think Sakura is better written than these two then you have some serious reading to do, buddy. Just because you like to use the argument of Sakura being one of the main leads of the story does not mean her character is better, which it's not.

True, there is not Part 1 or Part 2 in the manga. But, there is a time skip, so don't play dumb...

All the rest is just a random opinion from a hater.

That's still not a background, a background is events that happen to the character before the beginning of the main story.

Naruto's story starts at him painting the hokage faces. Anything chronologically after that is not a background, anything chronologically before that, is.

Calling me hater just to make yourself feel better? Geez ...

Keep your opinion to yourself, I really don't care to argue w/ someone who actually resorts to using arguments outside of the manga like calling Hinata a stalker. Do you even know what that means? Probably not. And since we're on the subject, remind me why you think being shy is a bad character trait ? Lol

Someone who's trying to defend Sakura's development as being good has no right to talk about 'taking steps back', as Sakura herslef suffers from this like no other character in the manga. every time she has some form of development, it's later crapped on by other events. U_U

I don't see why should I, I am not trying to make anyone think like me and I don't see any part of my post suggesting something even close to it, that's the reason I always said "In my opinion" before any statement.
And that's what my post was about, providing my opinion, nothing else. You have the right to disagree, and provide all the arguments that you want to support your own opinion, as you did, but fail to convince me, as you did as well.

What you can't do is telling me "I have some serious reading" just because I think Sakura is a better character than the ones you mentioned, and believe me, I like them too.
But the fact that you can't understand how someone could like Sakura over Tsunade/Chiyo/Hinata, etc. only speaks of your lack of tolerance to other people tastes. I don't see why you fail to realize how your opinion is just valid as mine.
You can provide post twice bigger, filled with arguments, scans and facts I already know about all the females of Narutoverse, and my opinion would still be the same.

What's better written character you say? I was discussing about which was the most developed female character...
But, yes, anyway, I like the way Sakura was written, she could have been written better though, I agree, but that goes for every other female character too. Just for the record, I never said, EVER, that Sakura was the best written character because of her role as a main character.

Regarding to Hinata being a stalker, yes, I know the difference, thank you. I was just referring to her extremely shy attitude she never got to change until The Last in spite of saying/thinking in the manga that she would stop being like that. But I was talking with someone else when I said that, addressing what she replied to me, I didn't bring Hinata or any character into this thread, she did.

Why not? The grew up, 2 and a half years have passed, and all what happened before is certainly linked to the main objective of Naruto after the time-skip. I call it a backstory.

I do know what it means, I exaggerated on purpose, I only was referring to the way Hinata usually acts around Naruto, and you know that, again, don't play dumb, ok?

Why can't I think Sakura has the best development among the female characters? That is just my opinion, think whatever you want.

Fortunately for you, this is not a VS thread.

Fortunately for everyone , this is not a vs thread. If it was , it would have gone down the same predictable path.
However people have presented their opinion here in most eloquent manner, for which I am thankful. Also discussions have been more mature than on an average on the base.

Okay, you can keep telling yourself part 1 counts as a character's background, can't really argue anymore on that when you're just denying the very definition of a background.

So how's that bad again ?

Never said you can't have that opinion, it's just a flawed opinion.

How so? Show me a definition for background or back-story that embraces events after the beginning of a history.
Plus, it's pretty logic, after the time-skip,and its outcome for every character, specially the main ones, it all became part of their back-story too. I mean, It had great relevance for both Naruto and Sakura, and the main plot.
Plus, If you are going to be that technical, the manga began when Minato sealed the fox in Naruto as long as I remember, so that means everything that happened afterwards cannot be called back-story?

Again, how desperate are you?

So how's that bad again ?

Never said you can't have that opinion, it's just a flawed opinion.
Not at all, my opinion is just as valid as any.

Here you go:

Backstory: a story that tells what led up to the main story or plot.
Just for your information. Part 1 and part 2 were main stories.

First, where did you get that from?

Second, you think Part 1 and Part 2 had the same main story or plot?

I got it from Merium Webster. Also look up any definition of backstory you will pretty much get the same definition basically.

No but they were a mainstory.
