Take a look at all the main antagonists. With the exception of Orochimaru who is a maniac all the other villains are extremely calm personalities.
Villains like Madara , Obito , Pain and Sasuke are shown to be always in nirvana-mode no matter how difficult their situation is.
On the other hand Naruto ,his teacher Jiraya , the Kages are all (except Mei who is a generally neutral and not interesting character) easily enraged or carried away by their emotions.I can add Gai , Lee and some others easily.
The only exception being Kakashi.
Of cource one could say that the Akatsuki were maniacs but those were not main antagonists.
So I don't know if this is Kishimoto's mistake (or intention) but I think the manga lacks in this aspect and gives a wrong impression about how a hero in reality would look like and which aspects of him should the reader (the manga is written for children and teenagers too after all) imitate.
To conclude, the portrayal in my view is quite problematic and I would like to know what the rest of the base thinks about it.
