This might've been a time ago, but the only reason Edo Itachi is still alive is because "Two genjutsu can't overlap each other." He was under the effects of Kabuto's will and Kotoamatsukami. In which case, both cancelled each other out and he was henceforth free, so that Kishi could keep up his streak of no one being able to defeat him a.k.a. Naruto breaking his foot off. So, why did it happen to Kabuto? He was under the effects of Izanami, which Itachi says is a genjutsu, yet, straight from Narutopedia,

"Outside Kabuto's mind, after his glasses were removed, Itachi proceeds to cast another genjutsu to force Kabuto to reveal the hand seals needed to cancel Impure World Reincarnation and then had him execute the release."

They should have both either canceled each other out, and Kabuto was from there free just like Itachi, or Itachi would have to cancel Izanami, and due to Kabuto's threat perception, be able to counter Itachi's next genjutsu.

Make no mistake, Kishi breaks the rules so Itachi doesn't get defeated by ANYONE!

In that Managa it looks like Itachi used his eyes to get Kaubto to tell him the seal, it doesn't say he used another Genjutsu on Kabuto

this^. Edo Tensei is not a genjutsu...KA was the only genjutsu used on Itachi.

Once again man, lemme help ya out.

Itachi explained how he had implanted Shisui's eye into the crow, rigged it to use Kotoamatsukami with the command "protect Konoha" on whoever used his dōjutsu. This was originally meant for Sasuke in case he attacked Konoha with the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, overrode Kabuto's control over himself instead.

After Itachi's explanation that two genjutsu cannot overlap each other, we figure out that the Edo Tensei's control is indeed a genjutsu...

Edit: May I also add that this is a very unimportant point in the scope of my thread. This is mainly about genjutsu overlapping, not implied phrasing.

Narutopedia is a bunch of other low-ranking info scrubs like her. They're perpetuating the same results, questions, and answers as us.

ok if edo tensei control was a genjutsu it would have overlapped the genjutsu that was cast on itachi before he died (when he was in konoha)

That wasn't permanent. Wait, what?

Itachi can layer multiple jutsu.

The Genjutsu, KA, is way stronger than the jutsu Kabuto used for Edo Tensei to control Itachi, which is why Itachi was able to cancel Kabuto's jutsu.

Itachi used a Generic Genjutsu to get Kabuto to tell him the seal, Kabuto already under the effects of Izanami, did not require a more powerful technique to reveal the Seal to undo Edo Tensei.

Sharingan Genjutsu: This technique is simply the use of generic genjutsu used by Sharingan wielders. By simply having their opponents look into their eyes, the user can lock them within a genjutsu of their choosing, paralysing or knocking out an opponent,[1][2] or force them to reveal information that they have.

And two genjutsus can't overlap, canceling each other out like what happened with Itachi.

Itachi can layer multiple Genjutsu.
