What is being discussed in this thread is: If Kimimaro took a bath in lava, would he survive? Assuming he's in this position (from the neck down)
It was stated that Kimimaro's bones were stronger than tempered steel. (It goes without saying that tempered steel >>> regular steel)
Regular steel melts around 1370 degrees C (2500°F).
Lava ranges from 700 to 1,200 °C (1,292 to 2,192 °F).
This normally wouldn't mean much as the rest of his body would simply melt leaving his skeleton of non-meltable bones. However, this is where the infamous bone masks come into play. The layer of bone directly under Kimimaro's skin would defend his vital organs and prevent him from dying (Of course he wouldn't want his face to be submerged as his eyes would not like that very much.)
That would probably leave a nasty scar right? Kimimaro would have absolutely no skin from the neck down, correct? Nope, he simply regenerates his skin, like so:
