What is being discussed in this thread is: If Kimimaro took a bath in lava, would he survive? Assuming he's in this position (from the neck down)

It was stated that Kimimaro's bones were stronger than tempered steel. (It goes without saying that tempered steel >>> regular steel)

Regular steel melts around 1370 degrees C (2500°F).

Lava ranges from 700 to 1,200 °C (1,292 to 2,192 °F).

This normally wouldn't mean much as the rest of his body would simply melt leaving his skeleton of non-meltable bones. However, this is where the infamous bone masks come into play. The layer of bone directly under Kimimaro's skin would defend his vital organs and prevent him from dying (Of course he wouldn't want his face to be submerged as his eyes would not like that very much.)

That would probably leave a nasty scar right? Kimimaro would have absolutely no skin from the neck down, correct? Nope, he simply regenerates his skin, like so:

Just because Kimimaro's bones were hyped to be hard as steel (or stronger) doesn't mean that they have the same attributes as steel, such as melting point. As for lava melting Kimimaro's bones, Mei and Roushi's Lava Release would do just fine.

I wouldn't call it unbelievable due to it being stated in the Manga rather than the Databook, as it's the Author's own voice. Not to mention, Kimimaro's bone almost went through Gaara's Absolute Defense, which > Tempered Steel obviously.

Viz translation said his bones are as hard as steel. which is kinda vague since there's diffrent types of steel but yeah i agree his bones could survive lava but his organs maybe not.

Let's apply some logic in this.

Provided that:
1. His bones are similar to tempered steel, having similar or better characteristics, including melting points and the like.
2. He can still regenerate after all of his outer skin tissues are burned off (normally, cells regenerate by multiplication of nearby potent cells).
3. The lava's temperature tops off below the melting point of the bones.

We still have these issues to face:
1. His bones would still absorb the heat, which would denature everything inside.
2. Radiating heat would still reach his eyes, and melt his eyeballs.
3. His body would struggle to keep up with the high temperature. His hormones would go nuts, and, unable to cope with it, his CNS would suffer a breakdown.

Nah man, while it could be argued that he could survive a brief wave of heat, such as Mei's boil release, or a fire-element attack, he wouldn't survive prolonged exposure to lava.

Unless, his genes give him a unseen method to cope with the heat.

Bones being as strong as or stronger than tempered steel doesn't automatically mean it has the same melting point.
