Well, I've always been fascinated by swords. I've always thought it was a magestic weapon. Ever since I was a little kid I've wanted to own, and learn how to use a sword. So, I figured, having one in RP world would be pretty cool too.

Hm.

*Hands you a bokken.* Anyway, let's start from the very beginning.

A horizontal slash is one of three basic attacks with a sword. It runs horizontally (<---->) and can be used with either one or two hands.

It is the counterpart to the Vertical slash.

You preform the horizontal slash by placing your arm (whichever you use) on the opposite side of your body with the sword pointing outward, also horizontal. Then, you unfold your arm - this movement is almost like swinging a baseball bat.

This can also be done in the method that you use your arm and cut across to your opposite side of your body (if you use your right arm, with it still by your right side, you cut to your left). This variant is not as powerful as the first, but is still strong and quick, and can be extremely useful.

Did you understand that?

(Don't mean to sound demeaning. I'm trying a new training style with you.)

I understood the second one, but the first one was a little confusing
Basically, you put your arm on the opposite side of your body, and then swing it back to where it should be; *I cross my right arm across my chest to the left side of my body, and then unfold my arm and swing, swinging my sword from my left to right.*

okay

*I hold my right arm over my chest out to the left side of my body*
*Then I swing my arm from the left side to the right*

okay, next one

*While my right arm is still on the right side of my body, I swing my arm back to the left side*

Good.

The next strike is the vertical strike. It strikes vertically, or up/down, down/up.

You preform this slash by lifting your blade above your head and by holding the blade so that the tip points behind you. You simply then unfold your arm and bring the blade down. This could be compared to the motion you would use with an axe to split would, albeit with one hand.

The other variant (down/up) simple is doing that movement in reverse (slicing upward), with the edge skyward.

Do you understand how to do this strike?

*I swing my arm back up to where it's pointing above my head again*

Good. The horizontal and vertical slash are the most basic moves of kenjutsu.

Now, next is the stab.

I would assume you know how to stab, so please demonstrate. o_o" If not, I'll post a description.

Ok. A demonstration of stabbing...
*I pull my sword backwards with the tip pointing straight in front of me and then lunge forward with it*

And, yeah, that's how you stab. o_o"

Next is the lunge, which is a stronger variant of the stab.

You preform the lunge by stepping forward and stabbing. This can be done with either one or two hands (though it would be preformed the same way), and you generally lean into the strike. This attack is how fencers fight, and in Kenjutsu, it generally does more damage with the more force and speed you can put behind it.

Was this a good explanation of the move?

Yeah, it was a good explanation
I'll probably have to demonstrate, sooooo....

*I pull my sword behind me, just like with the stab*
*I take a step with my left foot, with the sword still behind me*
*I take a step with my right foot and lunge the sword out as I take the step*

xd You're catching on.

Next, we'll do the two-handed variant of the horizontal slash. Like the horizontal slash, it can be done either of the two ways I have shown you previously, but you will use two hands (again, think of it as holding a baseball bat.)

Two-handed slashes are much more powerful than one-handed slashes, but they are not without their drawbacks:

Two-handed strikes do not allow certain movements to be made, as you have both arms on your blade, and one arm is most likely cutting across your chest.

They offer more power and speed, but often lack a certain finesse needed for difficult combos, but that can be overlooked with experience and transitions between one-handed and two-handed moves.

Now, please preform the horizontal slash, with two hands.

Please be descriptive, as it will allow me to correct any flaws in your form, or your notion as to how the slash is specifically executed.
