xd Alright. I'll keep it simple.

*Taking a hold of my bokken with both hands, I step forwards towards you and unleash a horizontal slash at your upper chest, just below the level of your shoulders, swinging from my left to the right.*
hmmm...

*As you start your swing I grab my sword with my right hand and lift it up, while the tip of the sword points downward. I keep my sword side by side with my lower arm and also keep in touch with it. Then I stop your blade with mine, close to me. At the time our blades get in touch I grab your right wrist, take a diagonal step to my left and pull you toward me. When I made the step I continue the pulling only a little and instead make a horizontal hit with my left elbow to the right side of your head. After the hit I keep you where you are and make a kick with my right knee in your stomack, sending you backward. During this I hold my sword where it is and hold/keep your wrist in my hand.*

btw I wanted to add that, after the kick I follow my started move, let your wrist go, while I'm still holding my sword in the original position and kick you on your left by stretching out my right leg. how's it?

EDIT: and you went offline >.<

*As you grab my right wrist, I retain a grasp on my sword with that hand - however, using my left hand I do the same to you (from what I'm reading in your move, your right arm is held near your head, holding the hilt of your sword which is pointing downwards - you left arm is down by your waist, near the tip of your sword).

As you go to make your step to your left, when you start to pull me towards you, I throw my body forward, tackling you to the ground due to the added momentum, and headbutting you at the same moment, preventing most of your move as I have a hold of your left wrist, and you a hold of my right, and - well - you're on the ground, grappling.*

That was actually very well done. ^_^ Took me a bit to figure out what I wanted to do.

And about your note: Not very good, truth be told. o_O' What you just said doesn't make a lot of sense, and doesn't flow well from a Taijutsu/Kenjutsu stand point anyway. @_@

Anyway, if you're ready, we'll move on to diagonals. ^_^

Alright.

Despite anything else you've seen in this training, diagonals will be the attack you'll use most with your sword, unless you really adopt a fencing fighting style. The reason for this is simple: we're human.

We don't move in perfectly straight lines, nor do we attack in them. They'll usually have some kind of angle to them; they won't ride perfectly on the x and y axises.

Diagonals are hybrids of both vertical and horizontal strikes, being offset from both axis. However, being, in a more practical sense, the only type of slash you'll ever make, they can block any slash as well, depending on the angle.

A nearly horizontal slash would be incredibly difficult to block with another horizontal slash, but a more vertical slash would have no problem.

That's the main premise of diagonals: angles. Depending on the angle of your blow and your opponents, you'll either block or trade blows.

While more of a technicality than something you'll see in the RP, it does raise important points.

Horizontals and Verticals stop each other by making pluses ( + ), while diagonals do so by making "X"'s. Like I said, the angle of the blows will always differ - we're human - but it address how strikes interact.

Now, this concludes your training.

If you have something that you'd like covered again, or in more detail, or just aren't sure about, tell me, and we'll expand upon it. ^_^

If not...are you prepared for your Graduation Spar? I want you to use everything you've learned, and spar with me.

I have some question before we start the graduation.

1. there's a difference in power between the 1 and 2 handed strikes. so can I stop a 2 handed strike with only 1 hand? as I've done in the practice before. I have a feeling it can't be done in every situations, so should I instead deflect/dodge those attacks?

2. in the rules there's a point what is saying I must block my opponents first attack. but what if I just dodge it by sidestepping for example? (I had an argument with black uchiha in a fight where I dodged his attack by side stepping and he said I can't do that O_O, but that attack was a simple stab with a cable...)

1. Technically, yes, you can, but it's hard to transition that into the RP. In real-life, it is very much possible in certain situations, but obviously much more difficult than trying to stop a two-handed blow with two hands. So long as you provide enough information, you should be fine in the cases when you can stop two-handed strikes with one-handed one. And to the second part of that question, yes.

Deflecting/dodging attacks is infinitely preferable to blocking them. In fact, in real-life sword play, blocking is done only when one cannot avoid an attack outright. Deflecting and dodging the enemy's strike puts you in a better position than your opponent, rather than blocking, which puts you on nearly equal ground. I recommend dodging/deflecting as your primary reaction, though there's nothing wrong with blocking; and like mentioned earlier, deflecting/dodging helps keep your momentum high.

2. Okay, this depends on several things. The rule in question refers to jutsu. You can't just dodge a fireball, you have to block it. However, things that are not jutsu are not subject to this rule; so when your opponent tried to stab you, nothing is wrong with you sidestepping out of the way.

However, I want to emphasize that you can block certain Taijutsu/Kenjutsu and even a few elemental techniques with a free-form move, provided you show enough skill. If you don't think it'll work, or are not sure, I don't recommend doing it.

That rule, along with Nagashi, is the primary component as to why freeform Taijutsu and Kenjutsu are not commonly used. I made a set of rules up which allow for "realistic" battles like those found in the manga; that is, you can dodge attacks. It seems to be growing rapidly in popularity, and it allows for Free-form Ken/Taijutsu to be used, as you can now dodge jutsu instead of having to block everything. I highly recommend trying fights with that template; unless it's official most people won't object to the rules - in fact, more people seem to enjoy them, and if we're lucky, they may become the norm for Battle Arena rules.

All good?

Alright. Now, throughout the fight I'll attempt to give you various bits of advice.

*Assumes the chudan kendo stance with my bokken.*

You're expected to use everything you've learned so far in this fight...

So, let's begin.
Hmmm... I assume I'll fight with a bokken too. So... (how I hate to start... I can't even tell... =/)

*I take my sword away and grab a bokken with my right hand. Then I try it out with a few slashes and stabs. As I'm done with it I grab the bokken with both hands and run toward you. When I'm in range I lift up the bokken above my head and start a two-handed vertical slash aimed at your head. Before the attack could reach you I redirect my attack by making a half round in the air with the tip of the bokken, and make a diagonal slash aimed at your right shoulder.*

Starting is difficult with Kenjutsu - the sword, in my opinion, is better used for counter-offense. When you can counter a move, and then implement your own offensive measures, does the sword become the most dangerous.

*I retain my chudan stance as you practice for a bit with a bokken, and then come rushing towards me. When you raise your blade in order to strike at me with a vertical slash - despite it actually being a feint - I quickly sidestep to my own right. As your sword is whipped around to your left, in order to strike my right shoulder, I quickly bring my blade upwards in a diagonal slash, using both hands, to block your strike.

With your sword stopped outside my right shoulder, that means my left side is now facing you -taking advantage of this, I quickly step in towards you, aiming to "tackle" you with my left shoulder by driving it into your chest.*

Your move was good - sometimes, you need to decide how long you want to make your combo; deciding if you want to pressure the opponent into blocking multiple things, or seeing how they react.

you are dangerous with these tackles :D

so... if I'm right, you are in front of me, but your left shoulder facing with me and my blade is on my left.

*As you stopped my blade and start to step toward me, I make a quick step to my right, letting you to step where I was before (or at least close to that point). At the same time I let go of my sword with my right hand and only hold it in my left. Then you supposed to be close to me, so I kneel in your left side with my left knee and then hit your nape (there's 3 word for this so, it is the back of your head what I wanted to say) with my right hand, making you feel dizzy. Then I retain a grasp on my sword with my left, making the tip of the sword pointing to my elbow and the blade itself is in line with my lower arm. Then I raise it up before me to defend myself.*

xd I like to grapple.

And yes, you where right about the positioning. And the problem with your move was...well, it did nothing to stop me from preforming my own.

*As you go to knee me in the stomach, as you release you blade, I succeed in my tackle, driving us both to the ground with my tackle - the chaotic nature of the tumble to the ground (due to me assuming a grappling position by quickly rolling) prevents your strike to my head. However, before we begin grappling, I quickly roll away and spring upwards.*

Unless you know specifically how to grapple, being on the ground with me like that was not a good situation to be in. Since my full-body tackle's not going to be stopped by your knee in the stomach, I could take the hit and still come out on top, as mentioned earlier.

*Assumes the chudan stance.* Let's go again.

My conception was to dodge your tackle with a side step, arriving behind you and kick your left side (not your stomach). Also the sword release and the step should made almost the same time. step -> release -> kick -> ..., but if it's not working then ok.

My god... it's a hell finding out a good starting... >.<""" *Calls my cheer girls for some inspiration.*

*I get up, walk back a few steps and stand in a new stance, similar to yours and grab my sword with 2 hands. :)p) Then I lower the hilt of my sword to the right side of my hip and make the sword point down- and backwards, at the same time a make a small step towards you. Then I start to run toward you, but because of the small distance it's just a few steps with great speed. When I arrive in attack range I brandish my sword and make a diagonal slash from your left hip to your right shoulder.*

I couldn't come up with a proper plan so I start with this now... (hopefully at least it looks cool. xd)

Well, you had a good plan...the problem was your execution. Due to the way you worded your move, none of it really went into effect early enough to be of any use to you.

Oh, and by the way....All kendo stances require two hands. xd So if I'm in the Chudan stance, and you mimic my stance, you're using two hands; I tend to let go with my strikes, though.

*As I watch you assume the Waki stance (which is what you did with your move xd), when you rush towards me, I quickly take a few, slower step backwards, just to create a slight bit of distance so I can analyze your movements; by backpedaling, I create enough distance so that - as I see you swinging your blade upward - I have ample time to react; from my chudan stance, I simply pull my blade back, and down, blocking your strike with my own blade.

However, as I have your blade blocked, with my blade now on the inside, I quickly rotate my bokken 180 degrees so that the "edge" is facing you - with that, I also step forward and do a diagonal slash of my own, striking you across the chest, moving from my lower left to upper right; since your blade was underneath my own bokken when I did the slash, there's no way for you to block it with your bokken.*

This goes back to what I said earlier about putting yourself at a tactical advantage - my sword is on the inside, and favorably so, so I don't have to worry about you using your bokken to block.

hmmm... I had to read about 3 times in a row before I could understand what are you doing xd I have to be careful how I explain my moves O.O

okay now I don't know I have to move when you step toward me or when you block my move. this time frame rule is so confusing >.<

*When you start to step toward me, I make a quick jump toward you and get close to you before you could hit me with your bokken. With the same move I also headbutt you and make you lose your focus for a bit. At this time I release my bokken with my left hand, grab the back of your head and kneel in your stomach with my left knee. Right after the kneel I release your head and grab your right hand instead. I also place my left leg close to your legs and minimalize your movements. By this time you should lose your balance too so I start to rotate my body to my right, pull you with me and throw you away. Then as you are flying I retain my chudan stance. (lol sounds funny from me xd)*

I hope this was good enough, but somehow I feel this is rather a taijutsu fight instead of kenjutsu =/

*The problem with your move is, is that if you're hitting me that hard with your head, you're going to stun yourself as well as me; as you extend your hand to grab the back of my head, I do the same with my left hand, smashing a palm thrust square into your sternum as you knee me in the stomach, pushing you back, preventing the rest of your move, as I quickly backpedal.*

That was a very good Taijutsu execution.

And if you want, I'll lay off the Taijutsu as well; from this point on, I'll focus solely on the swordplay.

<_<" And my apologies about the late reply.

There's a big difference between the expected and unexpected headbutt. If I expect the pain I could reduce the effect, this way I don't think I'll stun myself that much as you said. Don't need to completely lay off the taijutsu, just reduce a bit and concentrate on the swordplay a little more. So should I attack again or what will we do? :)
