He only became almost Kage, because he's intelligent. He's excellent to keep the village stabilized, maybe even better than Tsunade (even though he hates the job), but he would get his ass kicked if he fought against other Kages or Kage-level shinobis. People even argue now whether he can beat Tsunade or not and we all know Tsunade sucks.
I think what he was implying is mutual respect when discussing your opinion. There's no point in stating your opinion if no one respects it nor take it into consideration based off how you reply. If that's the case, there's no point in replying aside from reading your own point of view.

Deidara fight was long-range Kakashi himself stated that. Pain's was mid-range, he couldn't touch him with his hand. Close range is like for example Taijutsu. Just corrected ya.
