Sound 4 are fodders. They barely managed to beat 2 tired tokubetsu jounins(a chunin capable to be a jounin in a certain category) coming back from a mission with level2 activated. Only Kimimaro would be a real threat and not even him is a match for Kakashi or Gai. Raikiri or other variants(capable to cut through V2 that not even kusanagi could scratch) would pierce through his bones like butter

The sound four got really unlucky going up against major matchup problems in the Leaf 5. Choji's meat tank which didn't require chakra manipulation was perfect for getting out of the mud prison, Neji's ability to extend chakra from any part of his body allowed him to get out of the web, Shikamaru able to use his web to stop the flute girl from blowing her flute, etc.

I think the Sound five actually take this with their signature moves. If Gai or Kakashi get caught in the flute genjutsu, spider web, mud prison, or get Sakon/Udon inside of them they are finished. And lets not forget Kimimaro who tanked Gaara's sand funeral/sand tsunami.

It's a fact that the Sound 4 were exhausted from fighting low-level jounin while in curse mark mode. Later on they were defeated by mere genin. Kimmimaru is the only one to "survive", but even after fighting for a while his body gave out. Kakashi and Gai are among the strongest in Konoha. They would handle everyone from the Sound 5 easily except for Kimmimaru. The real question is if Kakashi and Gai can defeat Kimmimaru. I think they could win.

The only reason the Leaf 5 were able to survive is because they had the absolute perfect skills to counter the Sound 5's really cheap moves. Naruto couldn't Rasengan his way out of the Mud Prison, just like Kakashi wouldn't be able to Chidori out of there because the prison interferes with Chakra manipulation. Choji's body expansion technique was perfect to get out. Just like Neji's ability to shoot chakra out of his body using jyuuken was perfect for getting out of the web. Or how Kankuro's puppet clone was the perfect counter to Sakon/Udon's body stealing move. Or Shikamaru's shadow being able to stop Tayuya from blowing on her flute.
