So let me break down my view on how I think it all really went down.
Why I think this? Three reasons:
1. In the last weeks chapter it was hinted that the moon or/and infinite tsukyomi is in someway connected to Kaguya:
Again in this weeks chapter as the infinite tsukyomi is active Zetsu reveals his true intentions as the "will of Kaguya". The timing of this great plot twist leads us to the conclusion that the infinite tsukyomi has something to do with Kaguya's true intentions or that it grants her more power.
2. When you think about it, hasn't the moon eye plan always seemed a bit out of character for a guy like Madara? A ninja who wanted to surpass everyone and show them his power, while they are AWAKE. And suddenly we are told he want's to achieve peace through dream...As far was we know back in the day Kaguya was the one that used the Infinite Tsukuyomi to force mankind to stop fighting for unknown reasons, released the technique and gave free will back to the world. So it sounds more something that Kaguya would want to do.
3. Also I found one similarity between Zetsu and Gedo Mazo that I think it's worth speculating. In the bottom panel of this page:
shows that as Madara is being taken over by Zetsu, he is making the same "GWOOOAAH" noice as has been seen Gedo Mazo shouting many thimes before. So if Gedo Mazo was part of Kaguya..and Zetsu is part of Kaguya.. and both of them are making the same noice, then isn't it obvious?
I realize it's a bit far fetched but that exact noice is something we've only seen Gedo Mazo making.
- It is unknown how Kaguya died. But I think that when she died part of her or her will was sealed in the Gedo Mazo and also in the moon as the "guardian of the juubi".
- When Madara summoned Gedo Mazo she was "awakened".
- When Zetsu was born Kaguya's will manifested in "him".
- He (Zetsu) then begun manipulating Madara to start planning the Moon Eye Plan, while Madara thought Zetsu was just a mindless puppet, part of his will.
- Kaguya's goal was to manipulate Madara into giving her, her full power, by activating the infinite tsukyomi.
