Yeah this pretty much sums it up! If they had higher ambitions in their dreams, why were they never mentioned before? We know Ino always wanted Sasuke and developed a thing for Sai, and Hinata has loved Naruto since forever!

I don't agree, Kami. Even in ancient stories shortly before the Restoration period in Japan during the reign of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, females had been shown as a significant part of a community; a lot of writers periodically show their respect towards women who were part of samurai families, helped their husbands, and even fought in desperate situations. Shortly before Nobunaga's death, a woman helps him sacrificing her life by finding and giving him arrows.It's part of the old-fashioned thinking of the Japanese I believe. Throughout the mangas, the females usually serve some purpose for the male characters in this manga rather than trying to help themselves.
But Kishi is kind of mediocre when it comes to developing females so it's to be expected
