"I can never emotionally attach with Itachi because he does not resemble a human."

I think you need a break from anime buddy if you need to emotionally attatch to a anime character xd

you say he has no personality which is a false, he is simply very calm and collective alot... which makes his character seem less noticeable in a sense.

Now before you go calling me a troll or a kabuto fanboy listen up- this isn't character bashing. Itachi Uchiha might be my least favourite character in the Naruto series but I want to talk about this maturely and factually :)

You can go on about his OP techniques and the still hard-to-believe Itachi good guy plot twist (which still seems a little far-fetched) but I have only one real gripe with the Itachi character. He doesn't seem real.

I can never emotionally attach with Itachi because he does not resemble a human. I respect what he did for his village to prevent war but i'm not emotionally on his side because Itachi does not seem to have a personality, Kishimoto's portrayal of him is so perfect, omniscient and righteous that there's barely a character underneath it all in my opinion. He's just a walking plot device spouting wisdom.

The problem is that Itachi has never really been shown a weakness. He has never been in trouble and he always seems to be in control. We've been told he has stamina issues but then we've never really seen that exploited so we just have to take Kishi's word on that. He has powers that literally gurantee him victory and if he can't win Kishimoto will literally invent a new jutsu that lets him take control of the situation. The fact that he seems to be physically and morally flawless means that he just seems like a plank of wood to me, I don't mean disrespect but remember when Tobi was talking to Sasuke about him? Just a passing comment, something like "would've been nasty if we'd clashed. But I could've probably taken him" in that cave and I think i'd like his character a hell of a lot more.

In my opinion characters and people for that matter need weaknesses, they need flaws and they just need to be subject to defeat sometimes- it makes them more real and relatable. Kishimoto instead writes Itachi as a flawless, beacon of hope idol, making him out to be some sort of god when he is not, because for character design and 'being a badass' yeah that's fine but for a character who's gone through so many hardships and is so intelligent, I feel there should be something more to his character.

I just wish at least once, Kishimoto had written the tiniest little hint that Itachi may not be immortal and somebody other than himself was able to kill him. Just once. And this is why i've never really understood the appeal of Itachi. Because...(ugh) Itachi DOES solo.

This was not meant as any disrespect to Itachi fans, I just want to know if anyone agrees or disagrees?

you...DO remember the part when Itachi hit the nerves and lashed out against the uchiha police for their blind and arrogant alligiance to Uchiha clan?..that felt pretty realy imho

You don't attach to fictional characters? Then...why would you care about anything that happens ever? I'm not talking about getting married to the guy, a basic rule of character design is that they have to be appealing so that the audience can form an emotional attachment to them.

The calm cool thing worked when he was a villain and we knew almost nothing about him but now it just sort of adds to the whole 'this is perfection' character design Kishimoto set up for him.

That was before Itachi really became Itachi, it never really wore off on me. Plus do we know it was actually genuine? The fact that Itachi lies so much makes it difficult to believe anything he does pre-Sasuke fight.

True but it is a VERY small weakness and it's never really been exploited or shown in the show. We just take Kishi's word for it, I also meant more as in morally flawless. Nothing he's ever said has been wrong and he is ALWAYS the perfect voice of judgement.

You are wrong entirely.

Seriously, I've written this so many times already, I may as well copypaste it. Indeed that's exactly what I'll do.

About Itachi's numerous flaws and shortcomings, you can read a veeeeeery long discussion between me and Wood Release (bold). Writing the same concepts once again would be too repetitive really.

his plan involving Sasuke is disgusting.

Yes, but not because it's not a clever plan, just because it is morally horrid.

Kill everyone, torture Sasuke, get Sasuke on the path to revenge, kill me, unlock MS, he takes my MS, he gets EMS, use KA to make him good...

You are listing all these as if they were all part of a single plan while they weren't. And you're missing various points about the plan itself, also.

Alright, why didn't realistically Itachi explain what was going on and explain why he killed the Uchiha, calmly and slowly and then take Sasuke with him and leave the village together? Then one day if Itachi dies, Sasuke gets the MS etc. etc. Why did he use this weirdo plan to use Sasuke?

Itachi is a great character because he isn't a walking mass of goodness like some seem to think. Among his desires there was the very selfish one to keep his clan's name clean, and he assumed that the same was true for Sasuke - that Sasuke would be prefer thinking Itachi as a mass murderer rather than knowing their clan for what they really were. A very big mistake he himself admitted after defeating Kabuto. Saying "I killed them and that's the just reason I had" was just no option for him, it would be like killing them twice.

Itachi of all people, knowing the history of the Uchiha and whatnot, should've known not to put Sasuke on a path of revenge.

Itachi thought he could control the situation. He admitted even this mistake, once to Naruto and once again to Sasuke itself. He basically tried over and over again to manipulate Sasuke.

Essentially you're missing various traits of Itachi's personality. He is manipulative, coercitive, and thinks he can keep everything in control. Which is really believable for someone who is a triple-agent spy and an acclaimed genius estranged by his own famous lineage.

Also, what would he do if Danzo killed Sasuke? Go kill Danzo? Like that'll bring Sasuke back right,.?

Agreement with Danzo and the others: I won't say that you ordered the massacre and nobody will harm Sasuke. WOrked pretty well, too, considering nobody tried to except Danzo via Sai once, when Sasuke gave them the excuse that he turned a criminal. Danzo only ordered explicitly his elimination after Itachi's death was confirmed. And before Hiruzen died it wasn't even in question that someone could touch Sasuke...and after Hiruzen died, Itachi paid a visit to Konoha and then again for two long years nobody dared suggest to harm Sasuke. All of this is pretty consistent with the fact that otherwise Itachi could reveal the secret of the Uchiha massacre and that the "peaceful" Konoha was basically built upon a bloodshed.

And what if Sasuke killed himself..? What would he do then?

That had nothing to do with Itachi himself. Sasuke was born out of a family of ninja and wanted to keep the tradition. He was bound to end in dangerous situations since youth anyway.

Second, Sasuke killing Itachi would make him unlock the MS how..?

It wouldn't. Itachi's plan didn't include Sasuke acquiring the Magenkyo. You confuse Itachi's main plan with his backup plans. In case Tobi tried to speak with Sasuke, Itachi got a backup plan in sealing his own Amaterasu in Sasuke's eye, setting it up to react to Tobi and kill him. In case it failed, Itachi already told Sasuke that "Madara" (Tobi) is untrustworthy. In case Sasuke trusts "Madara" anyway, Itachi left his Kotoamatsukami in Naruto's body to literally brainwash Sasuke once again and fill it with an unexplicable desire to protect Konoha.

These weren't the core part of the plan just some back up emergency routes. It is telling that most of those included manipulating Sasuke in an even deeper way, by killing a possibile truth-teller or incepting an idea in Sasuke's own mind forcibly.

Itachi endangered Naruto for gods sakes by telling Sasuke to kill his best friend! He injured to a huge extent Kakashi - how would he have known Tsunade would save him? What if the Tsukuyomi he used on child Sasuke killed him? Also, Sasuke should've been dead had Tsunade not been Hokage.

That is once again where Itachi's arrogance comes into play. He was already in the act of being a very violent psychopath and kept with the act, which served to keep his agreement with Danzo, mantain his role as a spy into Akatsuki and keep Sasuke into his delusion. He did all sorts of things a sadistic maniac would do, including scarring Sasuke mentally and physically and hit him (and Kakashi) with dangerous, albeit non-lethal, jutsu. He knew he was taking gambles. He was convinced that Sasuke wouldn't kill a friend and that the Konoha villagers would cure him from the Tsukuyomi somehow and he was correct on both instances. His written path for Sasuke stopped working sometime after that (more on it down)

What if it was Danzo chosen as the next Hokage..? How about Kakashi..? Shikamaru..? Shikaku..? Any of them would've killed Sasuke when they had thr chance for being a missing - nin.

See point 2. Nobody would touch Sasuke until Itachi and Hiruzen are both dead. And by then, Sasuke would already be back on Konoha as a hero.

Speaking of missing nin, itachi is smart and should no, even if Itachi is killed that Konoha won't accept him back.

How so? Sasuke left the village only due to Orochimaru's influence, which then again was after Sasuke only because he tried to take Itachi's body and Itachi owned him. Itachi knew he could erase Orochimaru at any point - which is exactly what he did when he unleashed the Susanoo exactly in order to make Orochimaru appear from within Sasuke. Sasuke defecting to the Sound Village was the only thing that didn't go according to Itachi's plan and he thought he had the means to correct that. Once again he was arrogant because he underestimated Orochimaru and his Curse-Seal method of revival.

Sasuke would (in Itachi's mind) then be the one shinobi that in is youth killed Orochimaru and Itachi, two dangerous missing nins. And he'd be left with one desire: to rebuild the Uchiha clan, the proud clan he and Itachi once belonged to who was among Konoha's founders. What would then Sasuke try to do? Return to the village to rebuild the clan. Will they shun such a powerful and heroic shinobi? Most likely not.

Adding on, fugaku and mikoto accepted Itachi's resolve, so why didn't itachi try and you know...talk?

Diplomatic attempts were tried over and over, as it is explicitly stated. Keep in mind that the Uchiha clan was shrinked down from one of the two major forces of Konohagakure to a handful shinobis who were already bound to their role by birth - they weren't in the right mood to stop a coup d'etat once they had it set up.

Uh, excuse me but wtf is "Before Itachi became Itachi" ? Kishi always intented Itachi to be a good guy, so it makes logical sense that, when a family member is put into perspective about the spiteful fate of his entire clan, he gets a little bit looney about the whole ordeal. Since, there was obviously NO REASON for Itachi to try to act that way, except for, y'know, being genuinely emotinally wrecked

You guts don't undetstand itachis chakra reserves/stanima at all..

He has amazing chakra control and doesnt use jutsu idiotically and wastefully which allows him to fluently use a good portion of his arsenal.

observe the sasuke vs itachi fight..

he uses sharigan genjutsu for nearly half the fight which takes quite a large amount of chakra

then he uses tysyukuyomi which also takes alot of chakra

then he uses some katon techs

then he uses amaterasu for good amount of time

then he is also able to pull up a full armored sussano, i also believe he uses a shadow clone or two

add all that together and his stanima/reserves are well above average

not too mention he had his MS how many years which proves he used it smartly.

Exactly. The guy is basically flawless. And that's why I don't like him.

I see what you mean. My argument would be the fact that even if he's shown throughout a lot of the series he's not a main character, he's supposed to help them grow. Also intelligence is a factor in a fight and there's a reason we don't see the geniuses fight often. I mean imagine if the fourth hokage lived through his fight, which based on this ( ) it could've happened, the series would've looked radically different and most of the character's growth throughout the series could have been greatly accelerated. Imagine if Naruto had a genius father to teach him everything he learns throughout part 2? He really wouldn't have been a good main character...Idk seems Itachi is used to further Sasuke's story line and help him keep up with Naruto. As far as fighting yea, every time a genius fights they tend to be in control and always are a threat even if they are of lesser power. (As far as making up Jutsus you're kind of right, but with him using those it builds up the Uchiha image, it gives sasuke something to reach for and gives some sort of build-up to Madara's power so it's believable when he's shown) So yea that's my explanation, hope it's something to chew on =)

Thank you!!! You have literally articulated exactly how I feel about itachi. I have tried to like him, but I just can't. His character is just to unrelatable and just unrealistic. He gives no emotion which means whenever he is on panel he is just present with no impact. Even his genjutsu is similar because it eventually breaks and we are forced to accept that the last 3 chapters were basically a waste if time.

Itachi is still my second favourite uchiha, and he has mad skills but that's all he really is. It's like he is a plot device with some flashy abilities to distract you from noticing his lack of substance.
