As a strategist, Shikamaru defeats itachi because Shikamaru is a herder, a shepperd.. Itachi is a warrior.. obvious

If you actually read and we discovered that Itachi had shisui's eye only recently. Discussing Itachi is obviously a hot topic for a reason.
A special one.
Itachi let sasuke win, hidan was weak...But i think it may be a tieshikamaru is the only ninja who take down all by himself one of the strongest member of akatsuki ( Hidan ) but in the other hand itachi couldn't even beat sasuke !!

intelligence wise i will be generous and say it would be a tie but strength wise, Itachi wins this by far. Kishimoto made a huge mistake when he left the minor characters behind to rot and just powered up the ones he favoured. Shikamaru is definitely not a weak character but compared to Naruto, Sasuke, Nagato, and Itachi, Shikamaru is weak and cannot defeat any of them.
In case people are forgetting, Shikaku already mentioned that Naruto is FAR ahead of them and this was during Pain's invasion arc. Naruto only had Sage mode back then. Time has passed since then and Naruto has acquired control of Kyubi's chakra while Sasuke has obtained the EMS. We've seen both Nagato and Itachi fight on par with Kyubi cloak Naruto and 8-tails Bee. Shikamaru does not come close, sorry.
Edit: For those with arguments such as "Shikamaru is smart so he'll win." This is not relevant vs; Itachi or even vs. someone like Shino and Temari who are just as intelligent as Shikamaru.

You know, op was just talking about intell, not whos stronger.
And Itachi hasnt fought on par with naruto or bee, they both have been talking about the past if notice and havent even fought serious.
But I bet u were just trying to find an excuess to talk about much u think itachi is a god.
Also Im willing to make bold pretiction for later about how itachi got sick. IF madara was the one who got \him sick, would you still think Itachi is the genius of the century?

He actually did have Shisui's eye since the time Shisui decided to sacrifice himself. He just implanted the eye into a crow, and sent it into Naruto.
Actually, he did fight on par with Naruto and Bee. He managed to break out of Edo Tensei. Kabuto praised him.
The thread clearly states "Itachi vs Shikamaru" even then, I included who I think is better at intel.

So you dont know itachi got out of kabuto's control? How do you think itachi got himself in genjutsu. Maybe you should read the last chapter again and again. And neither bee or naruto used any of there moves other than punch, kick and doage.
But with nagato on the other hand they actually tried to kill, like bee for example.
I dont hate itachi never said anything about the character but I have made attacks against fanboys. I Feel the manga is wasted on such fans.
