Well yea, thats the only thing I could think of for how Kakashi got it as well, but then why did it only activate in Shippuden? He's thought of Obito's death as his fault for a long time, why wouldn't he've had it earlier?

It is highly possible that Kakashi had MS earlier and just didn't know how to control it. In the fight with Deidara Kakashi said that he still couldn't control the field around the target for his teleporting tech(forgot his exact words,srry).

It could be possible he just set him up for Danzou. Either way we will never know. And his death really isn't important anymore unless Kishi makes Danzou go more into detail on how his eye was attained.

if you look here sasuke talking with hes father about new types of sharingan , why would he tell him about MS if you need to kill someone ...

and itachi had MS after he found out that hes friend is dead... which could be that MS is emotional condition of losing someone really close to you, you dont need to kill him but just to lose him... itachi was saying sasuke to kill hes best friend to get MS cuz he knew that sasuke is strong in emotions, so he needed to do something to brake hes emotions so that sasuke can kill hes best friend ...

just remember he didnt kill naruto....

Madara and his brother had gained MS long before Sasuke was born. It could have very well been an important part of Uchiha history. The entire Uchiha clan was also planning a coup and Fugaku(sp?) might have wanted Sasuke to obtain MS so he could be part of the fight since he has proven that if he tries hard enough he could eventually become as strong as Itachi. When Sasuke didn't kill Naruto he didn't gain the MS. He only got it when Itachi transfered some of his powers to him.
