Orochimaru can only trade bodies when he's dying, he tried to take Itachi's body, that means he was dying.
You're taking that from the anime filler. In the manga, it's only shown Orochimaru and Itachi facing each other. What would Orochimaru even do behind Itachi's back? Stab him? He was trying to take Itachi's body, not hurt him.
How did Itachi "beat" Orochimaru, by the way? Cut off his hand? Orochimaru is an immortal regenerating freak that giggles when he's cut to pieces, that meant nothing. No, what happened is that he couldn't take Itachi's body so he left.
The databook said that Orochimaru used the last of his energy to use his hydra jutsu.
If you can't win against an Uchiha 1 vs. 1, then how did Itachi beat so many of them by himself? Hmm? So why didn't Hashirama run away from Madara? Why did Orochimaru, Deidara, Bee, Ei, and Danzo almost beat Sasuke? Why did the Uchiha clan get their asses handed to them by the Senju? Don't take the hype too literally.
Kakashi tried to beat Kakashi without MS, he used Water Fang and Exploding Clone, destroyed Kakashi's Water Clone, etc. Itachi needed MS to win, and couldn't beat Kakashi in pt.2 without it. You're right, it was a duplicate, but it had Itachi's mind, skill, and abilities; there was no real difference.
He did not have the strength of a Hokage, I have no idea where you are possibly pulling that from.
Itachi had all of the advantages in those encounters, and he needed Obito's help to sneak up on all of the clan members in their homes and such during the night. Danzo said that he and Hiruzen could had taken out the Uchiha clan themselves if they needed to.
By their positioning on the stairs, it is inferred that they were likely going up the stairs with Orochimaru behind Itachi. since going down Itachi would have been behind Orochimaru, not an optimal position for Orochimaru to attack. Not taken from the filler, just logical positioning on a staircase and optimal attack timing for Orochimaru. There are clearly differen't levels of fatigue. He can wait longer to switch out his body if he wants, which is the situation he was in with sasuke (and to remind you in that situation he was still able to fight fairly well, and thats with no arms). With the situation with Itachi you could clearly tell he was in no such sort of physical fatigued pain. And don't ask me what orochimaru's plan was, hes the one who tried attacking Itachi, subdue him somehow I guess with poision or a curse mark. Also it's more like Itachi let orochimaru leave after cutting off his hand and sparing his life.
Last of his energy, okay. Then how was he confident in being able to heal himself after being stabbed by the totsuka blade? He had to have enough to regenerate himself at the least, which is more chakra than Itachi had.
Facing an Uchiha in a 1vs1 is extremely dangerous because of their genjutsu ability. Itachi was able to beat them because their genjutsu would have no effect on him because he can break out since he outclasses their genjutsu. Their are ways to break out of genjutsu, one involves pain and another involves disrupting your chakra. Both of which aren't easy, but I assume the senju went through strict training to break genjutsu when the two clans were fighting each other. Why did they almost beat Sasuke, well they are strong. Sasuke even used genjutsu on Orochimaru and Diedara (diedara trained against genjutsu btw). And Danzo had an ability to keep him alive through death 10 times. A cut off his arm. Bee is with a tailed beast and is never truly alone. Also Sasuke isn't the best planner in comparison to Itachi, or the best at genjutsu.
Proof that he needed it to win? Also those duplicates weren't perfect, they didn't have all of Itachi's strength. You also have to remember that Itachi was holding himself back as he wouldn't want to kill some of the leafs strongest ninja.
DIDN'T HAVE THE STRENGTH OF A HOKAGE? ARE YOU KIDDING. With a single glance his genjutsu is capable of beating most people, his tsukuyomi all but guarantees his victory against most people. And then he has amaterasu, a move that someone of kage level speed cannot dodge. If you don't see how he had the strength of a kage by the time he unlocked his MS, you must be high as a kite.
It wasn't just danzo and hiruzen btw, it was danzo hiruzen and other anbu members (possibly including Itachi). And it never shows how many people Either Itachi or Obito kill, It is doubtful that Obito helped him get into any of the places as that would show Itachi his ability close up something he wouldn't want to do. Anyways my point is Obito likely didn't help him directly kill anyone, he was probably off killing by himself.
Edit: Oh ya, still waiting for your answer on who is superior to him in being a genius.
