Look at these two images and you'll see that not only does Madara's headband provide Madara with horns that mimic the sage, but the headband itself creates a shape that is very similar to the sage's brow.
Did the ninja headband begin as a way to mimic the image of the sage? Specifically, did early followers or adjacent generations create the headband tradition to make themselves look like the sage in addition to attempting to be like him? Did this purpose of the headband get lost over time? Clearly, even if the normal headband has no relation, Madara's is obviously made to make him look like the sage. I'm curious as to people's thoughts on this.
